Mercedes-Benz’s first pickup truck unveiled in Geneva, today, March 7th

Mercedes Concept X-Class will be unveiled with full details and we will share the news and pictures as it happens. The midsize vehicle will target families, outdoor enthusiasts and commercial customers. The production car will be revealed in summer, a Mercedes spokesperson said.

Mercedes will show two concepts for the vehicle. The first version is called the ‘Stylish Explorer’ and it is designed like a road-going SUV with bigger wheels and sleek bodywork, while the second version is called the ‘Powerful Adventurer’ and it accentuates off-road toughness with chunky tires and plastic protectors on the wheel arches. Both names sound rather odd and would be better suited in a Power Rangers movie.

This Mercedes pickup is based on the Nissan Navara and will be built for European sales in Nissan’s factory in Barcelona, Spain. Renault’s forthcoming Alaskan which is also based on the Navara, will be built in the same plant.

The Mercedes pickup will be positioned just above the Volkswagen Amarok pickup in terms of pricing. Mercedes marketing team have said that Europe, Latin America, South Africa, and Australia will be key markets for the model. Besides Barcelona, the pickup will also be built in a Renault plant in Argentina for south American markets.
