This Singaporean Petrol Station Has a Static Discharger

Static electricity from your fingers can ignite petrol fumes when filling up your car. That much is certain. But the probablity of this happening is pretty low. So low, in fact, that most stations don’t bother being proactive about preventing it from happening.

Today, however, I found one petrol station that did take it seriously. And where else, but in Singapore.

This SPC petrol station had a little rectangle for its customers to easily discharge before pumping. We only stopped at one station, so we’re not sure if this is regulation or a something only this brand carries.

Is this being too precautious, or are they on to something here? After all, having that little thing there is bound to get common folk to be curious about the danger static electricity poses.
