Will UMW Toyota launch the Yaris in Malaysia?
Will this Toyota Yaris arrive in Malaysia to challenge the current hot hatch favorites like the Honda Jazz and the outgoing VW Polo?
Under the hood is a 1.5-litre normally aspirated VVT-i petrol engine that delivers 79kW and 140Nm. It is mated to a CVT continuously variable transmission which delivers very good fuel economy.
The last time the Yaris was launched in Malaysia by UMW Toyota it came into Malaysia as a fully imported vehicle and that is why its initial new selling price of RM92,000 reduced its appeal in the market against the local assembled Honda Jazz which was almost RM18,000 cheaper to buy.
With Malaysians buying more hatchbacks than ever before, we suggest UWM Toyota look seriously at having this car here very soon. Maybe even local assemble it here to enjoy better tax breaks and so a lower more competitive selling price.
