Sometimes you need to look deeper than just a badge

Remember the previous Elantra? It was one of the first eye-catching Hyundais with some very bold curves thanks to its ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design language. I liked that car. A lot of Malaysians did too as Hyundai Sime Darby managed to give it the right amount of kit for the right price. But as impressive as it was, the 5th generation Elantra lacked a certain level of flair and refinement. It was a baby step in the right direction back when Hyundai still had something to prove.

Today though, Hyundai’s an established world-class car manufacturer. And the latest 6th generation Elantra Sport is a testament to that.

You see that immediately in the way the car is designed. The original Fluidic Sculpture look has been completely replaced by a more mature look. Instead of a traditional sedan look, the silhouette has been gently massaged into a 2.5-box. An imposing hexagonal front grille and angular headlights give it a decidedly premium, European flavour.

Hyundai were also a little more daring with the personality of the new Elantra as well. You get a few bold exterior colour choices, including Blazing Yellow, Marina Blue and Fiery Red. What’s more, the interior comes finished with a few red leather trim pieces too.

But it’s more than just a shift in looks here. The Elantra Sport also gets a downsized turbocharged engine as well as a super-quick shifting dual clutch automatic transmission. So, on top of paying just RM90 on road taxes annually, you’re also getting over 200hp and 265Nm of torque.

The Elantra used to be known for its average performance, but the Elantra is clearly a pack-leader. It’s barely more expensive than the standard Elantra, but not only do you get more speed out of the thing, you also get a more sophisticated rear suspension setup. With independent multi-link suspension there’s no compromises between comfort and dynamism.

For those looking for that a spicier than normal sedan, take the Elantra for a test drive. Price starts from MYR 109,888.00 (On The Road price without insurance. Applicable to Peninsular Malaysia only.)

Enjoy savings of up to RM10,000 (Limited stocks available. Terms & conditions apply.)

Free 3-year or 50,000km Service Maintenance (Whichever comes first)
