Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup to Play Support Role in SIC888

The popular Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup will join the inaugural SIC888 endurance event at Shanghai International Circuit for their fourth event of the season in an association which will reward any Cup competitor that enters the 888-kilometre October 7 event with valuable championship points towards their 2018 Cup campaign.

This year’s running of the Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup – the seventh season of the Asian-based one-make championship – has been campaigned for bronze-rated FIA classified drivers only.

The Cup season began on the streets of Adelaide in early March before venturing to Germany’s famed Nurburgring but it is now back in China, with rounds seven and eight contested at the emotional home of the Cup immediately ahead of the inaugural SIC888 event, allowing series regulars to gain valuable championship points and also be a part of a unique 888-kilometre journey around Shanghai circuit the following day.

All Cup competitors taking part in the 888km endurance race – 163 laps of the 5.451km track – will receive 10 championship points towards their Cup campaigns. The three (or four) driver teams entered in SIC888 can be Amateur (all FIA bronze-ranked drivers) or Pro/Am (one bronze, one silver/bronze, one silver/gold/platinum driver + one additional bronze for four driver crews), with Audi R8 LMS GT3 (all generations), Audi R8 LMS GT4 and Audi RS3 LMS entries eligible with the combination of TCR Asia and TCR China also contesting the same program.

Audi has enjoyed a successful relationship with the Shanghai circuit over many years as both a regular host for the Cup, but also TCR and GT competition, with a number of leading teams already signalling their interest ahead of the official close of entries.
