Scott McLaughlin wins the ITM Auckland SuperSprint event 15
Scott McLaughlin winner of the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy at the ITM Auckland SuperSprint event 15 of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, Pukekohe Park Raceway, Auckland. New Zealand. November 4th 2018.
Red Bull driver Van Gisbergen took 2nd place after his team instructed is team mate, Whincup to ease off on the final lap and allow the Kiwi to take the chequered flag. Whincup led from pole and by as much as 4 seconds mid-race, after making an early first stop as Triple Eight sought to ensure van Gisbergen didn’t have to double stack. He was ultimately frustrated with not winning the race, saying whether he finished second or third made “no difference”.
It meant the Kiwi pair finish the weekend with a win each and second each to hold the positions they shared coming into the weekend. The gap between the two Kiwi drivers will be 14 points as they head to the season-closing meet in Newcastle.
