Aston Martin Reveals DBS Superleggera Volante

Aston Martin’s DBS Superleggera was only just introduced in Malaysia. Now we have its convertible sibling, the DBS Superleggera Volante taking the sex appeal up a notch.

New Roof and Options

New to the DBS Superleggera Volante is the option to spec the hood in eight distinct colours and 6 Rokona headliners. Not only that, the window screen surround can be optioned with a 2×2 twill carbon fibre finish. This can be matched with the car’s tonneau cover and rear ‘waterfall’.

The Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante’s retractable fabroc roof is perfectly integrated into the car’s overall design. But not only is it great looking, it’s also technically very impressive. There are 8 layers of insulation material that keep wind and road noises out of the cabin when up.

Aston Martin claim they’ve simulated 10 years of wear and tear on the roof mechanism in a month of testing. This put it through over 100,000 cycles successfully in extreme heat and cold.

Similar Performance

Aerodynamics here are uncompromised. The car’s splitter and airdam force air underneath the car for more downforce and better cooling of the front brakes.

Just like the coupe, the Volante’s engine is a 5.2-litre twin turbocharged V12 petrol. It produces the same 715hp and 900Nm of torque as in the standard DBS Superleggera. However, the added weight makes it a little slower in its acceleration.

Going from 0-100km/h takes 3.6 seconds (0.2 seconds longer than in the coupe). Its 0-160km/h time is slightly worse at 6.7 seconds (0.3 seconds slower than the coupe). Still, impressive numbers all the same, plus it has the same top speed of 340km/h.

As loud and boisterous as that V12 is, it’s actually very ‘controllable’. Put it in ‘GT mode’ for a more tolerable long distance drives, ‘Sport’ or ‘Sport Plus’ modes for more intense sounds or ‘quiet start’ to sneak out of your neighbourhood undetected.
