Waze Tells You How to Beat the Ramadan Rush Hours
Ramadan is a month of patience and generosity. Nevertheless, it can also be very trying and exhausting, especially with the busy traffic that comes with it. After a full day of fasting, being stuck in traffic while you’re trying to get to your families and friends in time for “buka puasa” is the worst thing that could happen. So to celebrate this religious season, Waze is here to help you schedule your days throughout this holy month!
Be it a commute home from work or to run errands around the Klang Valley, here are the best and worst times to be on the road:
The Ramadan rush hour to work
Waze predicts that drivers heading to work will see heavier traffic than when they are heading home. Traffic is expected to be at its worst around 8am to 11am on weekdays and will only start to let up around 3pm. Those that are up early to have breakfast and prayers for “Sahur” should consider an earlier start to the day by leaving before 8am.
Best and worst times to hit fast food restaurants
Fancy a late night snack or a super early breakfast at your favorite fast food restaurant? No problem! During Ramadan, anytime from 9pm onwards is a good time to visit fast food chains, especially from midnight to 5am. On the other hand, the worst time to visit fast food chains is from 4pm to 7pm. This is, of course, due to the fact that people are getting ready to “buka puasa” with their family and friends.
Best and worst times to visit a mall
Ramadan season is a key moment during the year when shopping centers flourish with lots of people coming in to shop and dine. Shopping centers across Malaysia are consistently crowded between 12pm and 4pm and are most packed from 5pm to 6pm. Similar to fast food restaurants, this is because of those who either plan to reach home before “buka puasa” or those who plan on doing so at their nearest shopping mall. Those needing some retail therapy or a quick shopping trip can make their way to the mall from 7pm onwards.
Best and worst times for a quick trip to the bank
During the holy month of Ramadan, traffic to banks around Malaysia fluctuates throughout the day. From 7am to 9am, there is a steady increase of people making trips to the ATMs, however, traffic to banks start to rise after the doors officially open at 9.30am before it gets jam-packed between 12pm and 3pm. If you’re only looking for a quick withdrawal at the ATM, do so from 4pm onwards as the crowd gradually dissipates and continues to decrease after that.
Best and worst times to fill up on gas
If you’re looking to fuel up for the day, start early and you will be rewarded with little to no queues at any of the pumps before and around 8am! The crowd steadily increases from 9am onwards and you should avoid gas stations during its peak hours between 3pm and 6pm as people refuel on their way home or to dinner with family and friends. If you need to fuel up after work, make trips from 7pm onwards as they get less and less busy by the hour.
