Hyundai N performance tuned Starex MPV

Is this the MPV you have been looking for?

What started as an April’s fool joke earlier this year has just become a reality and maybe even a production model some time in the future for Hyundai.

The technical people at Hyundai in Europe decided to turn a fantastic idea into reality and revealed to the surprise of all in the management office this iMax N model “Drift Bus”. This MPV has been built to be ready to take part in the https://www.worldtimeattack.com/World Time Attack Challenge event in Sydney, this weekend.

The family interior

The new Hyundai iMax N “Drift Bus” has been radically transformed underneath its sedate passenger carrier image and in the cabin it remains fully functional as the standard people carrier and will continue to carry up to eight passengers in absolute comfort using full sized captain’s seats.

You will however notice the front seats and steering wheel are different as they have been taken from the Hyundai i30 N hot hatch.

The racy exterior

Also borrowed rom the hot-hatch is the 19-inch wheels, sports tires and rear diffuser. The body was painted in the light blue color typical of Hyundai N models and a splitter was installed in the front of N bumper.

The revised engine

Under the bonnet there is a petrol engine installed which is a 3.5-liter V6 that works with two turbochargers. This combination produces a total of 408hp and 555Nm of torque and it is coupled to an eight-speed automatic gearbox which sends all the power to the rear wheels. All these performance parts allow this 2.2-ton family ready machine to travel from rest to 100km/h in under 5.0 seconds!

To be able to drift this MPV, it required new suspension with adaptive dampers which were specifically reset and to make it more secure it received new braking mechanisms with stronger four-piston calipers on the front axle.

Hyundai iMax N “Drift Bus” will remain built in a single special unit, but you never know after it gets enough publicity on www.dsf.my.
