Bentley Bentayga Gets The Akrapovič Sound System

Would you want these titanium sports pipes fitted to your new Bentley SUV?

The Bentley Bentayga is the 2nd most luxurious SUV that can be bought today. The first is obviously is the Culinan from Rolls Royce. So, the owner profile is clearly a person of some class and distinction and this is why we find it strange that Bentely is now offering right out of their Crewe factory gates an Akrapovič titanium sports exhaust system for Bentayga owners.

Well, looking at the profile of Bentayga owners in North America and some parts of Europe, it clearly shows a growing number of music personalities, actors and people who work below the police radar and these are the owners that have too much money and need to spend it on their ‘rides’ to get noticed even more.

Akrapovič, to those who are not familiar with the tuning scene, is a world-renowned Slovenian exhaust manufacturer. Originally manufacturing motorcycle sports exhaust systems, they have since branched into the automobile world and has since been a mainstay of the aftermarket exhaust industry.

Any tuner would be happy to have some Akrapovič pipes sticking out the rear of their modified car, and the glorious bellows and howls resonating from these titanium pipes have been heard on various tuned BMWs, Audis and even Ferraris.

However, having one of these titanium pipes on a Bentley though is a head scratcher. Doesn’t the idea of letting that V8 or W12 roar, the antithesis to the grace, space and pace theme of this regal SUV?

Bentley claims that this special exhaust system was developed through close collaboration between Bentley and Akrapovič engineers and was inspired by the exhaust on Bentley’s record-setting Pikes Peak Bentayga.

The Akrapovič exhausts were announced in conjunction to the launch of four new collections of Bentley accessories, which basically amounts to some new trim pieces to further personalise your Bentayga for an exorbitant fee.

It still begs the question though as to why would any Bentayga owner in Malaysia would want a roaring Bentley.

Press Release : The Bentley accessories range is developed by the same engineers at Crewe as the cars themselves and are tested with the same level of scrutiny, guaranteeing immaculate quality.

A highlight of the accessories range is the sports exhaust, created in conjunction with renowned manufacturer Akrapovič, and which creates a more exciting exhaust note. The lightweight system is made from high-grade titanium, and consists of a set of link pipes, a muffler, and two sets of oval tailpipes, which are engraved with the Bentley and Akrapovič logos and specially coated for increased durability and protection. The central silencer is replaced with straight pipes, which channel the exhaust gases into the customer rear muffler where they are swirled through internal baffles to create a more characterful voice.

Through close cooperation between Bentley and Akrapovič engineers, the system has been specifically designed for the Bentayga and uses complex parts cast in Akrapovič’s in-house foundry, including the housings of the exhaust valves, which offer added control over the sound of the exhaust for discerning users.

The system is inspired by the special exhaust system made by Akrapovič for Bentley’s Pikes Peak Bentayga, which set a new record for production SUVs on the infamous Pikes Peak hillclimb in 2018. It is available now for the Bentayga V8 in Bentley’s North American and Middle East markets, while a version of the exhaust for the first generation Bentayga W12 is available globally as an aftersales accessory.
