Mercedes-Benz All-Terrain Launched In India

The most versatile E-Class of all time might not come to Malaysia

The premium SUV segment continues to grow in Europe and also Malaysia as Volvo, Jaguar, Mercedes, Peugeot, Porsche, Range Rover, Lexus, DS and BMW have helped to fuel the thirst of consumers with new and exciting designs and sports sedan handling thrown in to give that assured drive dynamics.

Car manufacturers entered the segment with relatively conventional body styles, but now they are also looking to offer a range of derivatives to take advantage of consumers’ seemingly inexhaustible appetite for SUVs.

Product planners and marketers like the segment because they can apply premium looks and technology to cars based on relatively shared platforms. Meanwhile, the station wagon has been quietly forgotten. All wheel drive wagons like the Volvo XC70 Cross Country and the Subaru Outback were popular before the arrival of the SUV.

Today, manufacturers still offer all wheel drive wagons, but their popularity is being over shadowed by SUV’s. This is probably why no one is talking about the new Volvo V70 Cross Country and this latest Mercedes-Benz all wheel drive wagon.

Mercedes-Benz All Terrain

The All-Terrain is visually more similar to the SUV models. In addition, signature All-Terrain components such as the radiator grille or the stylised skid plate now sport a mirror chrome finish rather than the previous silver shadow hue.

The three new paint colours available for the E-Class as part of the model refresh go by the names high-tech silver, graphite grey metallic and mojave silver. The wheel line-up has also been expanded and now includes aero wheels, which also contribute to saving fuel and thus to sustainability.

For the Indian market, the All-Terrain sells for INR 75 Lakhs and it comes equipped with a four-cylinder diesel engine that generates 194hp of power and it has 4MATIC. A special model-specific feature, All-Terrain transmission mode, is inspired from the Mercedes-Benz GLE range which offers off-road drive settings. The comfortable AIRBODY Control suspension configuration and the large wheels with higher sidewalls increase ride comfort on rough roads making it a path-breaking masterpiece to wear the Three-Pointed Star.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain has a powerful, unique appearance coupled with go-anywhere capability which differentiates All-Terrain from a classic estate. It features a range of technologies that enhances driving pleasure and offers unmatched luxury with rugged appeal. The All-Terrain has the elegance and luxury of an E-Class combined with the practicality and versatility of an SUV, with the go-anywhere capability of an off-roader.

The 4MATIC all-wheel drive E-Class All-Terrain has unique features like increased ground clearance due to the AIR BODY CONTROL multi-chamber air suspension. It is the most flexible all-rounder designed especially for unpaved roads making it the ultimate choice for a family car. The new model boasts all the intelligent load compartment solutions such as the rear seat cargo position. All E-Class innovations relating to safety, comfort and convenience are available in the all new E-Class All- Terrain.
