Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan Now Locally-Assembled

Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan is now locally-assembled in Pekan for better Malaysian pricing.

It may have taken forever, but Mercedes-Benz Malaysia now locally assembled two of their most popular compact vehicles – the A-Class Sedan and GLA crossover. In this post, we’ll be covering the details of the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) A-Class Sedan variants.

The New Locally-Assembled A-Class Sedan

Two variants of the A-Class Sedan will be assembled in Pekan, Pahang – the A 200 Progressive Line and the A 250 AMG Line. The Mercedes-AMG A 35 4MATIC remains a fully-imported vehicle despite Pekan’s ability to locally assemble other lower-tier AMG cars.

The A 200 Progressive Line and A 250 AMG Line are configured very closely to their previously available CBU counterparts. Thanks to favourable taxation, these cars are now significantly cheaper than before.

With the ongoing SST-free pricing for CKD cars, the cars are priced as such:

Until 31 December 2021

  • A 200 Progressive Line – RM210,902.57
  • A 250 AMG Line – RM 239,857.88

After sales tax returns (post-31 December 2021)

  • A 200 Progressive Line – RM219,888.00
  • A 250 AMG Line – RM249,888.00

Back when these models were fully-imported, they were priced at RM229,888 and RM267,888 respectively. However, there are some very noteworthy changes:

  • Dual Zone Climate Control with rear air cond vents added
  • Regular tyres instead of Run Flat Tyres
  • Regular brake disks instead of cross-drilled front brake disks (A 250)
  • Manual seat adjustment for front passenger instead of power adjustment (A 200)
  • No ambient lighting system (A 200)
  • Faux Carbon Fibre Trim instead of brushed aluminium (A 200)

Besides those changes, the A-Class Sedans are largely identical to the corresponding outgoing models.

What Powers These Cars?

The A200 features an M282 1.33L four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine co-developed with Renault. The engine produces 163 horsepower at 5,500rpm and 250Nm of torque between 1,620rpm and 4,000rpm. It’s paired to a 7-speed Getrag wet-type dual-clutch transmission sending power to the front wheels. It gets from 0-100km/h in 8.1 seconds and has a top speed of 230km/h. Fuel consumption is rated at 5.4L/100km.

In the A250 AMG Line, you’ll find an in-house M260 2.0L four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine capable of 224hp at 5,500rpm and 350Nm between 1,800rpm and 4,000rpm. This engine also gets a wet-type dual-clutch transmission that sends power to the front wheels, however, it is designed and produced by Mercedes themselves. 0-100km/h is dispatched in just 6.3 seconds and it has a top speed of 250km/h with fuel consumption at 6.3L/100km.

Colour Options

The A-Class Sedan will be available in Polar White, Cosmos Black, Mountain Grey, Iridium Silver and Denim Blue.
