Here’s What To Do If Your Car Was Caught In A Flood

The aim is to get your cars out of the flooded areas and send them to a workshop A.S.A.P.

Flooding in the Klang Valley as well as several other states has left vehicles severely wrecked and sadly, a large number of those cars will be beyond repair. With flood waters beginning to recede in some of the affected areas, many of you might be wondering what to do next in regards to your vehicles.

First and foremost, never attempt to start your car as it will cause even more damage to the engine and the ECU. Damage to these two parts can be extremely costly to repair. It’s best to just leave the car there or if possible, shift the gear into neutral and push it to safety.

The next thing to do is prepare for an insurance claim. Start by making sure that your insurance policy covers flood damage or special perils. Without this coverage, the cost of the repairs will have to come out of your own pocket. Note that comprehensive insurance does not cover damage caused by flooding. Special perils, which includes flood and other natural disasters, is offered as an option for which you’ll have to pay extra when signing up.

Next, take photos of your car, like you would in an accident. Take as many photos as you can, including the surrounding area, as they can be of great help when filing for a claim. Now that you have sufficient proof, make a police report at the nearest police station.

Now it’s time to call your insurance provider. Most companies now have dedicated apps that you can use to get in touch with them, request for a 24-hour roadside assistance and many more. All that’s left to do now is wait for your car to be towed to a panel workshop. However, in times like these, expect delays as tow trucks will be overbooked. They may also take longer to reach if your area is still surrounded by floodwaters.
