Chevrolet Blazer EV Is The Latest Electric Vehicle From General Motors

The Chevrolet Blazer EV is an all-new mid-sized electric crossover for the North American market.

Earlier this year, Chevrolet gave the Blazer a major facelift and new look. Less than half a year on and the company has introduced an electric version of the same vehicle called the Blazer EV. This version shares the styling of the petrol version, but is built on GM’s Ultium Platform, which will also underpin electric Hondas in the near future.

While the Ultium platform is capable of front, rear or all wheel drive setups, Chevrolet are only making the Blazer available in rear wheel drive or all wheel drive setups. The top-spec variant will be the Blazer SS, incidentally the first electric ‘SS’ model from the brand.

This Blazer SS will be all-wheel drive to the public, but will be available also as a rear-wheel drive model in the form of a Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV). The Blazer EV PPV will also get Brembo brakes up front and a police-specific interior for emergency equipment and gear. The all wheel drive Blazer SS models will feature up to 557 hp and over 878 Nm of torque. In ‘Wide Open Watts’ (WOW) mode, this model sprints from 0-100km/h in about 4 seconds.

Besides the SS trim level, Chevrolet will also offer the Blazer EV in 1LT, 2LT and RS trim levels with other configurations for the motors. LT models feature a monochromatic appearance and 19″ rims. Those wanting a sportier look should go for an RS trim, which adds 21″ rims and black trim pieces. The SS trim goes all out on the sportiness, adding 22″ wheels, a two-tone paint job and a unique front grille. Full LED exterior lighting with choreographed walk-up and walk-away animation are available on RS and SS models. This lighting system also shows the battery’s state of charge using a lighting sequence. RS and SS models also get sculpted air vents, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, customisable ambient lighting, blue and red contrast stitching and more upholstery choices.

The Chevrolet Blazer EV features a low centre of gravity, fully independent front and rear suspension, 11.5 kW AC charging and up to 190 kW DC fast charging which enables recovery of 125km of range in just 10 minutes. GM estimates a maximum range of 515km at best and Super Cruise hands-free driving technology will be available.

Other features on this EV include an 11″ digital instrument cluster and a 17.7″ touch-enabled infotainment system, plenty of soft touch materials, and advanced safety features such as Reverse Automatic Braking and Advanced Park Assist.
