Dongfeng Launches Nano Box Electric SUV In China From USD9,700

Another affordable Electric SUV hits the Chinese Market, this time from Dongfeng. 

Dongfeng EV New Energy (abbreviated to Dongfeng EV) is a Chinese automaker that makes Electric Vehicles (EVs) and on 17 July 2022, launched their new Electric SUV, the Dongfeng Nano Box.

This small, all-electric SUV comes in three versions and prices range from RMB65,700 to RMB71,700 which is about USD9,700 to USD10,600.

Dongfeng EV dealers estimate that the current wait time for this Electric SUV is about 2 months.

If this fun size Electric SUV looks familiar, it’s because this car was originally developed by Renault and is called the Renault Kwid, with the electric version being called the Renault City K-ZE. The Nano Box is produced in China by Dongfeng-Renault

This Electric SUV is also exported to Europe under the Dacia brand as the Dacia Spring and Dongfeng and it’s sub-brands also make other versions of this car in their factory.

These include the Dongfeng Aeolus EX1, the Dongfeng Fengxing T1, the Dongfeng Fengguang E1 and the Venucia e30.

The Dongfeng Nano Box Electric SUV comes in with dimensions of 3732/1579/1515mm and has a wheelbase of 2423mm and utilizes a semi-hidden door handle design while the familiar shape of the car is overtly rounded.

The front of this Electric SUV house it’s charging port and also adopts a split headlight flanking chrome strips.

As for the interior, the two-tone theme continues with the seats and door cards being two different colors. The air-conditioning outlet and control panel are also located below the centre infotainment screen.

Inside the Dongfeng Nano Box Electric SUV sits a 7-inch driver display and a 10-inch central touch screen for infotainment.

The car is also connected to it’s proprietary app which allows for functions such as remote door control, remote air conditioning control, vehicle positioning or a “find-my-car” feature, charging management and vehicle condition inquiry or diagnostics.

All very useful and practical features that elevate this car’s value for it’s relatively cheap price. This Electric SUV also comes equipped with voice recognition and Bluetooth.

As for safety, this Electric SUV comes with an anti-lock braking system, an electronic brakeforce distribution system and a reverse radar system.

The Dongfeng Nano Box Electric SUV runs on a 27.2kWh ternary lithium battery that is good for a cruising range of 331kmunder CLTC conditions paired to a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 33kW maximum power and 125Nm peak torque.

The Nano Box is also equipped with fast charging capable of charging the car from 30 percent to 80 percent in just 30 minutes. Slow charging can take up to 4 hours to reach 100 percent.
