GoEV Electric Car Sharing Programme Is A Year Old

GoEV celebrates its first year of operations with 500,000km on the collective EV fleet clock.

Electric vehicles are still beyond the reach of most Malaysians. Yes, some can afford to pay RM250,000 or more for an electric vehicle, but they can’t rely 100% on an electric vehicle for all their commuting needs. A trip out of the Klang Valley, for instance, might be better served by a petrol powered car. That’s why GoCar Malaysia started their GoEV programme exactly a year ago in December 2021.

Since starting the programme, over 1,000 customers have signed up. Those 1,000 customers have collectively driven some 500,000 kilometres of pure electric driving on GoEV’s fleet of electric vehicles. For more than 90% of GoEV’s user base, this was their first time ever experiencing a fully-electric vehicle.

“The EV market in Malaysia has been gaining momentum, specifically in the development of charging infrastructure and introduction of more EV models from various car brands. However, accessibility to the masses is still a challenge. The high cost of purchasing an EV is simply not viable for most Malaysians, especially given current challenging economic conditions,” said Wong Hoe Mun, CEO, GoCar Malaysia.

GoCar is expanding their list of services and has added more than 30 units of the Nissan LEAF to its GoEV Share fleet. These will go to 20 different zones around the Klang Valley and bring their fleet size of electric vehicles to 50 units for both sharing and subscription.

“GoEV addresses this gap and we are proud to be the first car sharing platform to offer a compelling solution for EV in Malaysia. The goal is to provide more affordable EV access to the general public so that everyone, not just the privileged few, can experience the EV lifestyle. Through our subscription model, potential EV buyers can also take advantage of GoEV for a longer-term experience before jumping on the bandwagon to buy one,” he added.

GoCar is also offering up to 70% savings (capped at RM80) on GoEV car sharing bookings on its 1st anniversary with the promo code “1STGOEV”. This promotion is valid for bookings made between 12-15 December but users can redeem their bookings as late as 31 January 2023. GoEV Share round trips start at RM24.90 per hour or RM249 per day. Alternatively, a car can be booked for a month for the equivalent of RM232 per day. All with complimentary chargEV access.

GoCar are also giving away 100,000 GoPocket Points, worth RM1,000, to 10 lucky users.
