1st Ever Mazda CX-90 Debuts With New Platform & Straight 6 Engines
The Mazda CX-90 has been shown and it brings a new large platform and new powertrains.
Mazda has been on an SUV product offensive as of late with all-new nameplates being introduced. They started off with the CX-30, but then introduced the CX-50 and CX-60. Today, they’ve introduced the CX-90, the largest SUV of them all. The CX-90 is built on an all-new, unnamed large platform. It also brings all-new electrified, turbocharged 6-cylinder powertrain options.
The CX-90 has seating for 8 passengers but has been designed with the driver in mind. The new large platform marries a longitudinally-mounted engine with all-wheel drive with a rear-wheel drive bias. It features Kinematic Posture Control, a software feature that suppresses body lift in tight corners. Mazda paid special attention in optimising body rigidity throughout the entire vehicle’s body.
A new 3.3L inline 6 turbo mild hybrid e-Skyactiv powertrain is being offered with 340hp and over 500Nm of torque available. The electric motor is situated between the engine and transmission, allowing for zero-emissions driving at low speeds and for a smooth electric boost on demand.
There is also a new 2.5-litre 4-cylinder e-Skyactiv Plug-in Hybrid powertrain with 323 hp and 500Nm of torque. This powertrain gets zero-emissions driving in more driving scenarios thanks to a 17.8kWh battery. All CX-90 models get an all-new 8-speed automatic transmission designed without a torque converter.
The Mazda CX-90 is a car with a refined interior that includes advanced technologies and amenities for a premium driving experience. It has features like third-row USB-C charging ports, air conditioning vents, and upgraded interior lighting.
The car has standard i-Activsense safety features like Smart Brake Support, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Mazda Radar Cruise Control. It also has a large 12.3″ display with physical buttons, and an available See-Through View monitor to assist with parking. The goal is to provide a seamless experience with technology and comfort while allowing the driver to feel in control.
The Mazda CX-90 is designed to have a perfect blend of high-performance and refinement with a well-crafted interior and increased cabin space for families. It has a wide body, longer wheelbase, and a sleek design with crafted curves. It has chrome garnishes and new 21-inch wheels. It also has Mazda’s latest Takuminuri color, Artisan Red.
The interior is inspired by traditional Japanese aesthetics, luxurious and comfortable in all three rows with multiple materials. The dash has a distinctive fabric inspired by hand-bookbinding and the Japanese weaving technique of Kumihimo, echoing its Japanese lineage.
