All-New Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate Debuts

The W214 E-Class Estate is not something we can expect to see in Malaysia.

The sixth generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class was revealed just a few weeks ago in sedan form and it caused quite a stir with its design aesthetic. Now, Mercedes-Benz is showing the estate version of the latest E-Class – not something that will find its way into Malaysia but still we think there are enough fans of the three-pointed star here for it to be worth sharing.

Just like the sedan version, the wagon E-Class is a big improvement in size over the last model. Width is up by 28mm with 22mm more wheelbase and a cargo hold that now takes 615L and can be expanded to 1830L on mild hybrid models. Plug-in hybrid models have 460L-1675L of space due to the placement of the battery under the boot floor.

The new E-Class Estate has a cd figure of just 0.26, which is very slightly better than its direct predecessor while having a very slightly larger frontal area versus its predecessor.

Mercedes-Benz are fitting single-chamber air suspension on the rear axle as standard with the new E-Class Estate. The system features a compact design that still works well with a full load on board. More advanced all-round Airmatic air suspension with ADS+ continuously adjustable damping is available as an option.

The new E-Class Estate carries the same progressive design as its sedan counterpart. You’ll find a black panel surface between the grille and headlamps to match it with the EQ family’s design aesthetic. Around back the rear window is raked steeply despite the overall increase in cargo capacity.

Inside, the MBUX Superscreen makes an appearance with an optional front passenger screen. Main icons on the screen are now simpler and colour-coded versus when they first debuted on the S-Class. The whole system now works on a single processor for better performance and integration of data streams. It also means you get TikTok and Angry Birds on MBUX… Interestingly, there’s an integrated webcam on the optional MBUX Superscreen which will enable users to conduct Zoom sessions while in the car. The Digital Vehicle Key for iPhone and Apple Watch are available for use on the new E-Class Estate. This also enables key sharing.

There are also systems to help treat travel sickness on the Energizing Comfort program. Mercedes-Benz claims their system can help reduce the feeling of stress with breathing exercises. The optional Thermtronic automatic climate control with Digital Vent Control enables the front vents to be adjusted automatically, though manual override is still possible.

In this generation, the E-Class also takes an environmentally-conscious view on production. Mercedes-Benz use recyclates and renewable raw materials in the upholstery and seat foam and they’ve ensured that these materials do not differ from the raw materials produced from crude oil in terms of their properties.
