Locally-Assembled Volkswagen Golf R Previewed With RM330K-RM350K Estimated Price Range
VPCM previews their fastest CKD model yet, the Volkswagen Golf R with the R Performance Package.
Months after discontinuing the locally-assembled Golf R-Line, Volkswagen Passenger Car Malaysia (VPCM) has struck back with a locally-assembled Golf R MK8. This fifth generation model remains the flagship of the Golf range and it’s rather interesting that VPCM has decided now is the time to introduce it in locally-assembled form. The estimated price range is between RM320,000 and RM350,000.
This is the ultimate performance hatchback from the brand and comes with a high-tuned 2.0L TSI 4-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 320PS and 400Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Unlike the Golf GTI, this model features a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system with performance torque vectoring. This all helps to deliver an impressive 0-100km/h time of just 4.8 seconds.
VPCM has decided to go all-in on the Golf R. It will be fitted with IQ.DRIVE technology as standard as well as the R Performance Package. IQ.DRIVE Technology here includes Travel Assist with Adaptive Cruise Control, Side Assist, Front Assist, Lane Assist and Emergency Assist.
As for the R Performance Package, you get a titanium Akrapovič exhaust (7kg lighter than stock), “Drift” mode, which turns off the Electronic Stability Control programme and shifts torque to the rear, and “Special” mode, which was designed for optimum contact on the tarmac on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. There is a new rear spoiler as well as 19″ Estoril alloy wheels.
The equipment list is quite high throughout. It includes a Heads-Up Display, a wireless smartphone charging pad, a 480W Harman Kardon 10-speaker sound system, and automatic high beam assist.
Colour choices for the CKD Golf R are Lapiz Blue, Deep Black and Pure White. Order books are now open and more information can be found on the official website.
