Can Middle Class Malaysians Buy And Own A Great Car

Here are some reasons why middle class Malaysians will never own a decent car!

Fact or fiction, some well placed media keyboard warriors who are under the payroll of certain organizations will try and displace my intentions to expose the fact about our automotive market.

Middle Class

Here are 5 solid reasons why middle class Malaysians will NEVER be able to drive a decent car.

  1. High import taxes (probably the 3rd highest in the world) is the first and biggest reason why YOU will never drive a decent car despite your many hours at work.
  2. Middle man costs. Fact, Malaysia has a middle man for almost every imported product and this is added cost to the final price. There are even ‘middle man’ government automotive agencies like MARii that charge car manufacturers (many more ways to make money) to get approvals for import tax incentives (and also CKD incentives) and this drives up the prices of new cars. Plus lets not forget our famous APPROVED PERMIT holders who sell their AP ‘paper’ and make easy money.
  3. The cost of owning a home is so high (again because of middle man costs) that you will spend most of your yearly income paying for a roof over your head and decide on a compact car instead of decent car.
  4. Currency exchange that is not in our favor does not allow car prices to come down and instead the keep rising slowly.
  5. The cost to eat out is rising and so many Malaysians have turned to online recipes and are cooking at home more, but the cost of groceries and wet market items are not well priced and this ‘eats’ into our budget monthly.
