Volkswagen Golf Edition 50 Celebrates 50th Anniversary Of The Model
The Volkswagen Golf Edition 50 is a very minor way to celebrate a very major milestone.
This year, the Volkswagen Golf turns 50 year old, cementing the legacy of this mass market European family compact, but also marking the end of the ICE era for the nameplate. With 37 million units sold worldwide, the Golf’s impact on the motoring world cannot be understated and it sits up there with the best selling cars of all time, like the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic.
To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Volkswagen will be selling a new Golf Edition 50 model in two bodystyles – the 5-door hatchback and the station wagon (known as the Golf Variant). Volkswagen Classic are also celebrating by showcasing historic Golf variants at the “Salon Rétromobile” show in Paris and the EA 276 concept car that inspired the Golf at the Bremen Classic Motorshow.
Volkswagen Golf Edition 50 Enhancements
The new Golf Edition 50 has a number of very minor design changes over the original model. It is based on the Golf Style, which is an upmarket trim in Europe with additional features such as the 18″ alloy wheels in “Leeds” style.
It also comes with tinted rear windows as standard, an illuminated horizontal radiator grille strip, an illuminated Volkswagen logo, a Discover infotainment system with ChatGPT, keyless start and locking system, Keyless Access, IQ.Light LED matrix headlight technology, and IQ.Light 3D LED tail light cluster.
There are 3 dimensional ’50’ badges on the B-pillars and Edition 50 logos on the front sill panel mouldings and bottom of the steering wheel trim. This model also gets pedal caps in brushed stainless steel and a black headliner.
Besides that there really isn’t anything that sets the Volkswagen Golf Edition 50 apart from the regular models. Feels like the company could have made more of an effort with this special edition model considering the fact that this is the final ICE Golf and how few nameplates make it to 50 years.
