2024 Renault Captur 2nd Generation Facelift Shown For European & Possible US Market

The new Renault Captur brings more style, space and hybrid power. Will it be skipped in Malaysia?

Renault has fully redesigned the Captur compact SUV for 2024, giving it a sleeker look, more interior space, new tech features and expanded powertrain options including a hybrid. The 1st Renault Captur was brought into Malaysia and locally-assembled as well. It’s still available right now for sale and via subscription but when the second generation Captur was shown in 2019, it was skipped altogether. Now the 2nd generation model gets an extensive redesign and we wonder if it will be ignored by local distributor TC Euro Cars once again.

Renault Captur Exterior Redesign

The 2024 Captur’s fresh exterior styling makes it look more premium and athletic despite being a facelift of the second generation model. Up front, it gets a new angular horizontal bonnet, revised grille with the updated Renault logo, and C-shaped LED headlights. The rear features a more contemporary light signature as well. The new Esprit Alpine trim brings a sportier look with 19-inch wheels, a splitter and skid plates.

Two-tone paint combinations expand to 14 color configurations, further increasing customization options. Overall length remains compact at 4.23m, but the new design gives the Captur more road presence.

Bigger Interior and New Tech

Despite its compact exterior footprint, Renault says the 2024 Captur offers exceptional interior space for the segment. Rear knee room measures up to 221mm thanks to a sliding rear bench. Maximum cargo space is 616 liters with the rear seats slid forward.

The cabin gets an all-new dashboard layout with a standard 10.4-inch vertical touchscreen running the new OpenR Link infotainment system with Google Built-in. This segment-first application of Android Automotive OS brings Google Maps, Assistant and app store.

More Powertrain Options For The Captur

In Europe, the 2024 Captur offers a wide range of powertrain choices including:

  • 1.0L 90hp turbo gas
  • 1.0L 100hp turbo gas or LPG
  • 1.3L 140hp mild-hybrid gas
  • 1.3L 155-160hp mild-hybrid gas
  • 1.6L 145hp E-Tech full hybrid

The E-Tech hybrid powertrain combines a 1.6L gas engine with an electric motor and small battery pack for electric driving around town. It’s projected to get around 4.7L/100km combined.

On the road, Renault says the Captur benefits from revised suspension tuning, new steering calibration and available Drive Mode settings for a more engaging driving experience.

New Safety Tech

The all-new Captur comes standard with Renault’s latest safety tech including automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and more. Higher trims get the Active Driver Assist hands-free driver assistance system, a first for the nameplate.

U.S. Model Possible

Interestingly, the Renault Captur is now also being considered for the North American market. It’s unclear what the strategy is exactly as Renault has long since exited the area. Perhaps it’ll be sold alongside Nissan models or just purely online in the US if the price is right. What is confirmed is its entry into the European market this month.
