Toyota Eco Youth Continues To Empower Youths In Creating Environmental Solutions
Now in its 23rd edition, the Toyota Eco Youth educational programme still goes strong
UMW Toyota (UMWT), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE), has proudly launched the 23rd edition of Toyota Eco Youth (TEY), an esteemed national-level environmental education program. This initiative underscores the brand’s steadfast commitment to empowering young individuals to actively participate in developing sustainable environmental solutions.
Catering to students aged 13 to 17, this year’s TEY program has garnered participation from 16 schools across the nation. At the TEY 2024 inauguration, participants will undergo an intensive workshop focusing on Toyota’s 8 Steps Problem Solving Method (PSM), designed to cultivate critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Moreover, the program features attractive cash prizes amounting to RM80,000 to incentivize the creation of innovative solutions. Aligned with Toyota’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) ethos, the TEY Programme mirrors the company’s dedication to prioritising environmental conservation.
This commitment is guided by Toyota’s environmental action plan, charting a course towards achieving zero CO2 emissions by 2050. Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota also stated, “The Toyota Eco Youth program is closely aligned with the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, which aims for carbon neutrality and significant positive environmental impact among high school students and educators.”
On top of that, since its inception in 2001, Toyota Eco Youth has flourished into a nationwide school environmental awareness initiative with a storied legacy addressing environmental issues affecting communities. Over the course of 23 years, TEY has engaged more than 300,000 students from 521 schools and their surrounding communities.
Datuk Ravindran K. added, “Through the Toyota Eco Youth program, UMWT is actively tackling present environmental challenges while equipping youths with essential future problem-solving skills. This initiative instils our ‘Move Your World’ philosophy in young minds, pushing boundaries towards a sustainable future.”
