This Dongfeng BOX is also badged as ‘Nammi’ in some countries
Well, this is the Dongfeng ‘Nammi’ (also known as BOX in Malaysia and some other countries) and it is an electric compact car and like all others in its segment on sale today, torque is instant and you will love the acceleration from standstill to 100km/h and even better is the mid-range acceleration that does not hesitate.
In Malaysia, it rivals starts with the popular BYD Dolphin and Ora Good Cat and moves slightly into the the segment where the Hyundai Kona, Mini SE and MG4 sit.

Its complicated right now for Malaysian electric car buyers as each manufacturer likes to tag their product as a Crossover or SUV, when it reality, most a high riding cars ….. hatchbacks.
This is because electric cars need big alloy wheels and large wheels to hold up these ‘HEAVY’ battery powered bodies.
Yes, electric cars are all 50 to 75 percent heavier than their petrol rivals because of the heavy battery pack sitting under the floor of the vehicle.

So, this Dongfeng is a car …. A compact hatchback car that should be in competition with the Perodua soon to launch electric car which will be about the same size, inside and outside.
Therefore, Dongfeng should quickly try and get as many Malaysian customers as possible before the Perodua electric car arrives.
The price difference between the two Dongfeng BOX variants is about RM20k and we believe that if you do decide to buy this or any electric car, best to go for a higher specification version as the added driving range of 80 kilometers or so, the cabin added features and of course, the faster acceleration and mid-range ‘punch’ is all well worth the added monthly instalment costs.

But, if you are already extending your budget to RM100k, the standard Box is still a worthy electric car to get started on your EV journey. Remember, 330km of driving range in the RM100k version is still decent as this is a weeks driving in Klang Valley. Then charge your BOX over the weekend evening when sleeping and the following week you will get another weeks of emission free driving without worrying about driving range.
When taking an outstation trip. Yes, planning will be needed right now (charging stations are being built as you read this). So, this has to be considered and that is why most first time EV buyers still have one other car in their garage, a petrol powered car for long distance driving without the headache of planning for battery charging.
