Mazda aims to eliminate traffic fatalities all together, it is close to that dream now
Mazda has been quiet as of late and now we know why as the Japanese brand is placing heavy emphasis on safety. We know this as Mazda has earned eight place in the 2025 TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), making it the brand with the most of these prestigious accolades.

The 2025 Mazda models that received the TSP+ award include the Mazda3 Sedan, Mazda3 Hatchback, CX-30, CX-50 (including the CX-50 Hybrid), CX-70, CX-70 PHEV, CX-90, and CX-90 PHEV. To achieve the coveted TSP+ award, vehicles must excel in several critical safety categories.
Moreover, these include top ratings in the IIHS’ front and side crash tests, pedestrian front crash prevention assessments, and the requirement for standard headlights that are rated as acceptable or good. The IIHS consistently raises the bar with stricter criteria each year, making the 2025 award program the most challenging yet.

Mazda has demonstrated exceptional performance in the IIHS’s newest crash test, which requires improved protection for rear seat occupants. All Mazda models tested received a top “Good” rating in this area. This achievement is a result of Mazda’s implementation of rear seat belt pretensioners, load limiters, and advanced airbags, all of which come standard on every model.
On top of that, these safety features are part of Mazda’s broader commitment to providing robust protection for passengers, ensuring the highest levels of safety. Mazda’s focus on safety goes beyond protecting vehicle occupants. The brand is also dedicated to advancing crash avoidance technologies. Mazda’s vehicles are equipped with systems that are specifically tuned to detect pedestrians in various lighting conditions, contributing to the overall safety of both drivers and pedestrians.

Tom Donnelly, President and CEO of Mazda North American Operations, emphasized Mazda’s commitment to safety, saying, “Mazda’s dedication to keeping our customers and their passengers safe in the pursuit of eliminating traffic fatalities is evidenced in these latest awards from IIHS. We deeply appreciate IIHS continually challenging the industry with ever-moving targets through their rigorous crash testing that reflects real-world crash scenarios.”

These eight IIHS TSP+ awards highlight Mazda’s continued leadership in vehicle safety, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to providing the safest driving experience possible for its customers.
