Sime Motors has had enough of the e waste here and is now doing something about it
While we know enough as a community that we should not litter and throw our rubbish around everywhere, it appears Malaysians are not as well versed when it comes to our electronic waste (e waste) instead. So what do you do when you upgrade to a new phone? Where does the old one go? Some may pass it to another or the like but some just throw it away irresponsibly.

Sime Motors has formed a strategic partnership with CompAsia, Southeast Asia’s top second hand device service with the aim of tackling the rising issue of electronic waste (e-waste) and promote environmental responsibility across the region. The initiative will be rolled out in Sime Motors’ operations in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia for now.
Moreover, with the increasing volume of e-waste, the partnership offers a responsible way for both employees and customers to dispose of old electronic devices. Through a trade-in program, participants can exchange their used devices for cash or discounts on new purchases.
This initiative not only encourages responsible disposal but also highlights the importance of extending the life cycle of devices. By promoting refurbished devices, the partnership contributes to a circular economy and helps reduce the environmental impact of e-waste in landfills, which can be detrimental to the environment.

George Hashim, Chief Strategy Officer of CompAsia, also expressed his excitement about the partnership, saying, “Sime Motors is one of the most established brands in Southeast Asia, and we are proud to join forces to create a greener, more connected future. Our innovative approach to extending the life cycle of devices, combined with Sime Motors’ leadership, will inspire consumers to make environmentally conscious choices that protect our planet.”
On top of that, this partnership is part of Sime Motors’ ongoing efforts to strengthen environmental stewardship. The collaboration will also support various corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects, including awareness campaigns focused on e-waste reduction and device trade-in programs.
In line with these initiatives, decommissioned electronic devices that meet quality standards will be donated to underserved communities in Malaysia, giving these devices a second life and contributing to a more sustainable circular economy. Sime Motors and CompAsia are committed to providing practical solutions that contribute to a circular economy.

Through this partnership, both parties aim to raise awareness about the growing issue of e-waste and encourage responsible device disposal, ultimately benefiting the environment and society at large. So what do you think of Sime Motors’ and CompAsia’s initiative?
