GAC’s Hyptec HL SUV Is Available In EV & EREV Form With Crazy Fast Charging

The Hyptec HL from GAC has some very fast charging numbers and a reasonable price tag.

GAC has officially launched its premium Hyptec HL SUV, marking a significant advancement in the luxury electric vehicle market. Available in both EV and EREV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle) variants, this high-end offering comes with a competitive price range of 269,800 – 319,800 yuan (approximately 36,900 – 43,800 USD).

Is there a possibility of this coming to Malaysia? Well, without excise duties, a fully-specced EV model could land in Malaysia for just over RM200,000. That’s not a lot considering how much tech they’re throwing in. However, it’s a crowded market and GAC’s local partner Warisan Tan Chong (WTC) will have to choose their battles. Their arrangement with GAC includes the mass market electric vehicle brand AION and seems to involve Hyptec (formerly known as Hyper) too. The Hyptec HT has been launched in Thailand and teased in Malaysia too.

The Hyptec HL embraces what GAC describes as a “land yacht design concept.” Its distinctive exterior features crystal lamp bead headlights and an innovative center grille with individual light units capable of creating various lighting patterns. Customers can select from four elegant color options: Nautical Blue, Ice Rock Gray, Deep Sea Green, and Night Shadow Black.

GAC Hyptec HL side profile

Without relying on high-definition maps, the Hyptec HL incorporates GAC’s ADiGO system alongside an impressive array of sensors:

  • Roof-mounted lidar
  • Three millimeter-wave radars
  • 11 cameras
  • 12 ultrasonic radars

This comprehensive sensor suite enables a range of advanced features including static obstacle detection, narrow space parking assistance, autonomous valet parking, remote parking assistance, and blind spot monitoring.

Revolutionary Charging Capabilities

All Hyptec HL models feature an advanced 800V fast-charging platform. Entry-level RWD EV variants offer 3C charging rates, requiring just 15 minutes to recharge from 30% to 80%. Higher trims benefit from 5C charging rates, reducing charging time to only 10 minutes for the same range.

The EV models deliver impressive performance with two drivetrain configurations:

  • RWD: 250 kW (335 hp)/430 Nm rear electric motor, 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds
  • AWD: Combined 380 kW output with dual motors, 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds

Both versions feature high-capacity ternary lithium battery packs of 95.9 kWh or 108.35 kWh, delivering CLTC ranges of 670 km, 700 km, or 750 km, with exceptional efficiency as low as 15.8 kWh/100km.

The EREV variant combines a 1.5T engine with a 53L fuel tank and 250 kW/430 Nm rear electric motor, achieving 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. With its 60.33 kWh CATL Freevoy battery, it offers a 350 km pure electric range and impressive 1200 km total range.

Spacious Interior and Premium Features

With dimensions of 5126/1990/1750 mm and a 3088 mm wheelbase, the Hyptec HL provides ample space in both 5-seat (2+3) and 6-seat (2+2+2) configurations. Second-row passengers enjoy NASA-standard zero-gravity seats with 12-way electric adjustment, 18-point hot stone massage functionality, and dual armrest screens.

The interior showcases GAC’s ADiGO 6.0 smart cockpit system powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip and DeepSeek-R1 AI model for advanced voice interaction. Technology highlights include an 8.8-inch LCD instrument panel, 27-inch HUD, 17.3-inch 3K central control screen, and 50W wireless charging.

Rear-seat luxury extends to a 17.3-inch 3K ceiling screen and refrigerator, while the premium audio experience comes from 24 speakers complemented by over 60 sound-absorbing materials and soundproof glass for exceptional cabin quietness.
