Overturned Trailer Caused Massive Congestion Yesterday, Here’s What Happened?

This congestion took place from Northport and Westport headed towards KESAS

A major traffic congestion unfolded yesterday evening on the Indah Island Highway, following an accident involving an overturned trailer on the Kem Road stretch. The incident, which occurred around peak hours, caused significant congestion in both directions, particularly affecting traffic flowing from Northport and Westport toward the KESAS Highway interchange.

According to current traffic updates released at 3.30pm yesterday, the trailer, believed to have been carrying industrial goods, lost control and overturned while navigating a bend near the Kem Road junction. Although the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, early reports suggest that wet road conditions may have contributed to the vehicle’s loss of traction.

Moreover, no fatalities have been reported so far, but emergency response teams were quickly dispatched to the scene to provide assistance and to clear the road. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the trailer sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for observation.

The recovery operation involved heavy machinery to remove the trailer, which had blocked multiple lanes and created a bottleneck for outbound freight and commuter traffic. Motorists traveling from Northport and Westport faced delays of over an hour during the height of the disruption.

On top of that, some drivers reported being stuck in traffic for up to two hours as vehicles were forced to merge into a single available lane. The situation was further exacerbated by the high volume of trucks using the highway for cargo movement from the ports. To alleviate the gridlock, traffic police redirected vehicles through alternative routes.

Motorists were advised to use the Grand Sepadu Highway via Bandar Sultan Suleiman as a detour to bypass the affected section. Signage and personnel were stationed along key junctions to guide drivers away from the congestion zone. As of this afternoon, clean-up efforts are still ongoing, but authorities anticipate that full traffic flow will be restored by evening.

Drivers are urged to stay updated through official traffic channels and to plan their journeys accordingly. This incident underscores the critical need for improved safety measures on freight-heavy routes like the Indah Island Highway, particularly in areas prone to sharp turns and poor drainage during adverse weather conditions.
