Peugeot E-208 GTi Could Be What Stellantis Needs Here

The Peugeot E-208 GTi could be just what the brand needs locally.

The new Peugeot E-208 GTi has officially debuted at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, marking the return of the GTi badge on one of Peugeot’s most popular models. It is also the first GTi-badged vehicle to be fully electric, combining performance, handling, and everyday practicality with zero emissions. We think that this could just be the product that Stellantis Malaysia needs right now.

The E-208 GTi is powered by a 280 hp M4+ electric motor paired with a 54 kWh CATL battery. The powertrain delivers 345 Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 5.7 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h. Peugeot claims this makes it the most powerful and best-performing electric vehicle in the B-segment.

Being a pure electric vehicle, the E-208 GTi would be exempt from excise duties and import taxes, making it very competitive against its petrol-powered counterparts. While even the regular 208 isn’t available in Malaysia anymore, there may be just enough commonality with the locally-assembled 2008 for it to be brought in as a CKD model at Gurun.

Compared to the standard E-208, chassis enhancements include widened tracks (+56 mm front, +27 mm rear) and a 30 mm lower ride height. Suspension components were revised with stiffer springs, hydraulic stops, and an added rear anti-roll bar. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 215/40 R18 tyres and a Torsen-style limited-slip differential optimise grip and cornering stability.

Braking performance is also upgraded. At the front are 355 mm discs with four-piston calipers, developed by Peugeot Sport. Rear brakes remain standard E-208 units. The ESP system includes a dedicated Sport mode for track-oriented driving.

Design cues pay tribute to the original 205 GTi. The E-208 GTi features red accents on the grille, emblems, wheel arches, brake calipers, and interior stitching. The bright red exterior paint is exclusive to this variant. New front and rear bumpers incorporate aerodynamic elements such as a front spoiler and a gloss black rear diffuser with LED fog lamp.

Inside, the cabin features GTi-specific red carpets, seatbelts, Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel, and heavily bolstered seats with integrated headrests. The Peugeot i-Cockpit® offers red-themed ambient lighting and digital performance displays, alongside standard infotainment features such as TomTom-connected navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

Manufacturing and assembly leverage Peugeot’s French facilities. The electric motor is produced in Trémery under the Stellantis-Nidec joint venture, while the design and performance development were handled by Peugeot Sport and Peugeot Design in Vélizy.

Charging performance includes 7.4 kW AC home charging in 4h40, or 20–80% DC fast charging in under 30 minutes at 100 kW. WLTP range is rated at 350 km. Features like vehicle-to-load (V2L), MyPEUGEOT® app connectivity, and a route-optimised Trip Planner are standard.
