SOUEAST Is The Next Chery Auto Brand To Land In Malaysia

SOUEAST Motor is owned by China’s state-owned car manufacturer Chery Group. Did you know that the Anhui-based Chery Auto Group sold its first car abroad in 2001 and has expanded to sell vehicles in more than 100 countries, becoming China’s largest auto exporter, according to a prospectus for its planned initial public offering in Hong Kong.

Yes, Chery Automobile is preparing for a Hong Kong Stock Exchange listing, potentially raising around USD1.5 billion. This listing, which could be one of the biggest in Hong Kong this year, aims to secure long-term capital for developing new vehicles and technologies, expanding globally, and improving domestic production. The company has already submitted its listing application to the HKEX.

Meanwhile, SOUEAST Motor is planning to launch in Malaysia, with the establishment of directly-operated subsidiaries anticipated by late 2025. The company’s presence in Malaysia was initially teased in early 2025, with plans for establishing sales outlets and production bases.

Look out for the launch of their Urban Intelligent C-class SUV, the S07 and the S06 Large Crossover with Malaysia likely to be included in their expansion and launch plans.

Interestingly, parent, Chery is expanding its presence in Southeast Asia, with Malaysia serving as a key production and export hub.

In Malaysia, Chery announced that it has begun export of JAECOO (another brand under its group) SUVs (starting with Vietnam), to Southeast Asian countries this year. 

The move is in line with Chery’s vision to make Malaysia its production hub for the region, the group said in a statement in February this year.

The first phase of exports from Malaysia to Vietnam will comprise JAECOO ICE SUVs and PHEVs with more models and brands to join the list. Exports to other countries within Southeast Asia will also follow including Thailand, Brunei, The Philippines and Singapore. Elsewhere in Thailand, Chery is also building a new manufacturing plant to produce hybrid and electric vehicles, according to earlier reports.

JETOUR, another brand under the Chery Group, was launched in Indonesia last year and was officially launched in Malaysia recently with expanding success.

Did you know that the Chery brand officially re-entered the Indonesian market in April 2022 and the Malaysian market in September 2023.
