Jaecoo J8 Launches in Malaysia with Two Variants and Upmarket Features

Jaecoo J8 Makes Its Malaysian Debut – Two Variants, Up to Six Seats and Luxury Features

Jaecoo has officially launched the J8 SUV in Malaysia, marking its second entry into the local market after the J7. Previewed earlier in both left-hand and right-hand drive forms, the J8 is now available in two configurations: a two-row, five-seater 2WD variant for RM178,800 and a three-row, six-seater AWD variant for RM198,800.

The OMODA | JAECOO brand is centred around the core concept of “People + Car + Life”. The brand is committed to building an all-encompassing and multi-dimensional “O-UNIVERSE” ecosystem that unites innovative automotive technology with the aspirational lifestyles of discerning consumers. Measuring 4,820 mm long, 1,930 mm wide, and 1,699 mm tall with a 2,820 mm wheelbase, the Jaecoo J8 is positioned squarely in the D-segment SUV category. It’s powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 249 PS and 385 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Power is sent to either the front wheels or all four wheels, depending on variant.

The AWD model boasts extra features like Continuous Damping Control (CDC) adaptive suspension, a 0–100 km/h time of 9 seconds, and a top speed of 200 km/h. Fuel consumption is rated at 8.1L/100km (WLTP), with a 65-litre fuel tank providing solid long-distance capability.

Design-wise, the J8 stands out with a bold front grille, slim headlamps, and distinctive J-shaped lower trim. Other styling cues include flush pop-out door handles, blacked-out D-pillars, and full-width taillights.

Inside, the cabin features dual 12.3-inch displays, wraparound wood trim, silver air vents, and a premium look and feel. Equipment highlights for the 2WD variant include a 12-speaker Sony sound system, ambient lighting, and faux leather upholstery. The AWD ups the ante with 14 speakers (including headrest units), 10 airbags, powered doors, NFC keyless entry, massaging seats, and Level 2.5 ADAS. This includes full speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Driver Monitoring System (DMS), Lane Change Assistance (LCA), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), and Forward Distance Monitoring (FDM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Event Data Recorder (EDR) and Fully Automatic Parking in the AWD variant.

Boot space varies by configuration—738 litres in the 2WD and 200 litres in the AWD due to the third row of seats. Colour options include Khaki White, Carbon Crystal Black and Olive Grey for the 2WD which come with a black roof for the AWD.
