The Proton e.MAS 7 was already the most solid EV on the market for the price, and now it gets even better.
The Proton e.MAS 7, Malaysia’s best-selling EV, has just received a major update that brings more colour choices, smarter tech, and improved customer benefits. As the brand continues to dominate the local EV market with 4,689 units delivered as of 31 July, this latest refresh proves Proton is listening closely to customer feedback. Here’s everything you need to know.

Fresh Colours for a Fresh Look
If you thought the e.MAS 7 couldn’t look more premium, Proton has just raised the bar with new exterior and interior options. Obsidian Black joins the permanent colour lineup, giving the e.MAS 7 a sleek and timeless appeal.

Proton is also introducing a limited edition interior option many customers have been asking for – Alabaster White. This lighter cabin theme brings out the sculpted lines of the dashboard and seats, giving the e.MAS 7 a more luxurious and airy feel. There’s a catch though – this interior colour is exclusively available with the Turquoise Green and Quartz Rose exteriors, and only in limited quantities. If you want one, you’ll need to act fast.

Flyme Auto Gets Smarter
One of the biggest highlights of this update is the improvement to the Flyme Auto software, and Proton has gone beyond simple bug fixes – this is a major upgrade based on real owner feedback.

Goodbye Ice-Cream Truck Sound
Remember the pedestrian warning sound that played at low speeds that sounded just like an “ice-cream truck”? Not everyone was a fan of it and now you don’t have to listen to it anymore. Proton has listened – that sound is gone. In its place are three new tone options: Classical, Galactic Note, and Space Walk – and they all sound decent. Owners now have the flexibility to choose their preferred sound or even turn it off completely. However, for safety reasons, the system will reset after each restart. This ensures pedestrians remain aware while still giving owners some control over the experience.

Apple CarPlay Finally Arrives
This is the feature many owners have been waiting for – Apple CarPlay is now officially supported on the e.MAS 7, with both wired and wireless connectivity options. This means you can access all your favourite Apple apps, from Apple Music to Maps, directly on the DHU (Display Head Unit).

Unfortunately for Android users, Android Auto will only be available in Q4, but at least there’s a timeline now.
Three New Apps Roll Out
In addition, three new apps will become available in the latest software update:
● iZi Travel – Turns your e.MAS into a smart tour guide, perfect for road trips.
● Zoom for Cars – Great for quick meetings, but please, use it when parked.
● Vivaldi Browser – Yes, it can stream YouTube, and yes, it works flawlessly.

Proton seems just as excited about this feature as we are, because who doesn’t like watching videos in the comfort of their car? Again, use responsibly.
More Benefits For The Customer
Proton is also updating its sales and aftersales strategy to make the e.MAS 7 even more appealing.
● Tonneau cover is now standard on new units. For existing customers, Proton is offering the cover for free with installation, which is a nice gesture.

● Power Exchange Program – Proton will now offer a RM5,000 trade-in rebate, valid for any brand and any age of vehicle. Of course, the car needs to pass inspection and comply with the relevant authorities, but this program could be a big boost for buyers looking to make the switch to EVs.

Aftersales Network Grows Stronger
Owning an EV is as much about support as it is about tech, and Proton has made solid progress here. The brand now has 47 appointed dealerships, with 35 operational, and 26 dedicated service centres plus 10 body and paint facilities.

Better yet, Proton claims 99% spare parts availability, meaning reduced waiting times for repairs – something that has been a major pain point for EV owners across the industry.
Charging Made Easier with Live Integrated Map
Range anxiety is becoming a thing of the past, thanks to Proton’s Live Integrated Charging Map, which shows real-time data on charging points nationwide. Malaysia now has over 3,400 charging points, covering 90% of the country. That includes 88 chargers on the East Coast, 37 in Sarawak, and 33 in Sabah, plus 1,100 chargers in 390 high-rise residences – great news for condo dwellers.

The EV to Beat in Malaysia
With 4.689 units delivered, the e.MAS 7 continues to dominate the local EV market. Holding 23.4% market share, it’s still the number one EV in Malaysia, an impressive feat considering it’s just a single model. Proton’s strategy of combining attractive pricing with features that Malaysians actually want seems to be paying off in a big way.

Final Thoughts
The Proton e.MAS 7 was already a strong proposition, but this update makes it even more compelling. With stylish new colours, a long-requested interior upgrade, smarter software, and practical customer benefits, Proton is clearly committed to refining the ownership experience.

Add in growing aftersales support and an expanding charging network, and it’s easy to see why this model continues to lead the EV market in Malaysia. For those considering an EV, the Proton e.MAS 7 just became even harder to ignore.
