The Nissan Sentra gets a 9th generation model for the US market that’s based on the 8th generation model.
The all-new 2026 Nissan Sentra has been revealed for the US market and it has some major design changes despite being based on the existing model. It adds standard Nissan Safety Shield 360 safety technologies, a spirited driving experience and a sporty SR grade and will be on sale in the US by the end of the year. Unfortunately, there are no plans to reintroduce the Sentra nameplate to Malaysia. It was last sold here in the 2010s before being replaced by the Sylphy, which was discontinued after 2 generations.

Under the hood, a 2.0-liter inline-four engine delivers 149 hp and just under 200Nm of torque, paired with a retuned Xtronic CVT for smoother, more natural acceleration. A new Sport Mode sharpens throttle response and transmission behavior on SV, SR, and SL trims. Ride comfort has also improved thanks to upgraded suspension tuning, enhanced rigidity, and improved sound insulation.

Nissan designers approached the 2026 Sentra with three guiding principles: daring, vitalizing, and resonating. The result is a more dynamic, premium appearance, led by an evolved V-motion grille, slim LED projector headlights, and a distinctive lighting signature. Aerodynamic enhancements, including reshaped trunk surfaces and underbody covers, improve efficiency while giving the sedan a sleek, planted stance.
Buyers can choose from a bold color palette including Aspen White, Scarlet Ember, Imperial Bronze, and several two-tone combinations with a contrasting black roof. Wheel options span 16 to 18 inches, each featuring designs that create a sense of motion even when stationary.

Inside, the Sentra features a more harmonious and premium cabin, highlighted by class-exclusive dual 12.3-inch displays and a segment-first touch-sensitive climate control panel. Bright, high-resolution screens make infotainment easier to use, while physical controls remain for key functions.
Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ come standard, with wireless functionality available on higher trims. Premium touches include Bose® audio, a 64-color ambient lighting system, wireless phone charging, heated front seats, and TailorFit™ upholstery.

As much as we’d love to see this new Sentra in Malaysia, we understand that the company is in no shape to be introducing big gambles to our tiny market. It’s also a more competitive and diverse landscape than ever before, so a sedan like this would have an uphill battle here.
