Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia Appoints Takashi Sakamaki As New CEO

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia gets a new CEO after 4 years of service from Shinya Ikeda.

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM), the official distributor of Mitsubishi vehicles in the country, has announced the appointment of Takashi Sakamaki as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective immediately. He succeeds Shinya Ikeda, who has led the company since October 2021.

Over 20 Years of Global Automotive Experience

Sakamaki brings with him more than two decades of international experience in the automotive industry. Throughout his career with Mitsubishi Corporation (MC), he has held several senior roles across China, Indonesia, and Mexico, specialising in business strategy, export operations, and market development. His work has been instrumental in driving Mitsubishi’s global growth, particularly in areas such as CBU exports and OEM supply partnerships.

In his first statement as CEO, Sakamaki emphasised MMM’s strong heritage and commitment to Malaysian customers:

“It is an honour to take on the leadership of Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia at such a dynamic time for the automotive industry. With Mitsubishi Motors’ strong heritage in Malaysia and the dedication of our talented team, I am confident we are well-positioned to navigate emerging challenges and seize new opportunities,” he said.

He added that MMM’s mission remains focused on delivering safety, security, and comfort, alongside technology and value that continue to inspire confidence among Malaysian drivers.

Building on a Strong Legacy

Under Shinya Ikeda’s leadership, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia launched the sixth-generation Triton and introduced the facelifted XPANDER, which has since become Malaysia’s best-selling non-national MPV. To date, more than 120,000 Triton units and 50,000 XPANDER units have been sold in Malaysia, reflecting Mitsubishi’s solid position in the market.

Founded in 2005, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia has grown into one of the country’s leading automotive brands, supported by 63 showrooms and 63 service centres nationwide, including 16 outlets in East Malaysia.
