Porsche Tops List as JPJ Records RM35.7 Million in Unpaid Luxury Car Road Tax

JPJ’s Ops Luxury 3.0: Porsche owners the biggest culprits of unpaid road tax in the country.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke has revealed that owners of several luxury car brands have collectively accumulated nearly RM35.7 million in unpaid road tax arrears, with Porsche leading the list.

ops luxury cracks down on luxury cars with unpaid road tax

According to Road Transport Department (JPJ) statistics, 4,308 Porsche vehicles accounted for RM13.7 million in unpaid taxes. Other brands include:

  • Rolls-Royce – 345 vehicles, RM6.4 million
  • Bentley – 660 vehicles, RM7 million
  • Ferrari – 675 vehicles, RM4.7 million
  • Lamborghini – 372 vehicles, RM3.7 million

High-Profile Owners Among Defaulters

Loke noted that many owners are prominent individuals, including business figures, politicians, and Tan Sris. He urged them to fulfil their responsibilities, stressing that while the government provides targeted petrol subsidies under the BUDI MADANI RON95 programme, high-income groups are not exempt from renewing their road tax.

Why Some Owners Delay Renewal

The minister highlighted a worrying trend: some luxury car owners prefer to delay paying until their vehicles are seized, as the RM300 fine is seen as cheaper than annual road tax costs, which can range between RM15,000 and RM30,000 per year depending on model and specifications.

Loke cited cases where celebrities were caught driving with years of unpaid tax, claiming they had “forgotten” to renew.

Enforcement Under Op Luxury

As part of enforcement under Ops Luxury, JPJ has already seized 421 luxury cars in recent months. Loke warned that if the trend continues, more drastic measures may be taken against repeat offenders.

He emphasised that the aim of Ops Luxury is not to shame owners but to reinforce that every vehicle owner has a duty to keep their road tax and insurance up to date.

A Clear Message to Luxury Car Owners

With millions of ringgit in arrears, the government is sending a strong message to Malaysia’s wealthiest motorists: luxury vehicle ownership comes with responsibility. Owners are expected to comply with regulations that apply to all drivers, regardless of status or income.
