Proton Ran A Competition To Find The Lowest Fuel Consumption Amongst S70 Owners
The PROTON S70 has been turning heads and winning hearts since its debut, collecting five prestigious awards in 2024 alone. Here’s why this C-segment sedan might just be your perfect driving companion.
With 33 eager participants for the event, competition to win the top prizes was keen as everyone vied for the cash prizes offered to winners.
Starting at Setia Sentral Juru, the route covered both the mainland and the island, heading first to Bayan Lepas and George Town via the Second Penang Bridge. The drivers then returned to the starting point, completing the extensive loop across the First Penang Bridge.
Before departure, each car was filled to the brim and had their fuel door flaps sealed to ensure everybody competed on an equal footing. This also meant the determining factor would be the skill of the competitors who needed to drive efficiently by using the accelerator and brakes smoothly while balancing the need to be economical with a minimum average speed so they could complete the journey within the specified time limit.
The ultimate winner was the driver who records the lowest fuel consumption (litre/100 km), calculated precisely by the amount of fuel required to top up the tank upon their return.
In addition to the top fuel economy prize, awards were also presented for best social media engagement (displaying moments with the Proton S70) and a colouring contest for family members of competitors.
At the end of the event, Abu Bakar Bin Mohd Yusoff was declared the winner after he achieved a result of using just 3.48L/100km.
This equates to an impressive average of 31.61km/L, giving a theoretical maximum range of 1,580km from the Proton S70’s 50-litre fuel tank. For his achievement, Abu Bakar received a cash prize amounting to RM1,000.
