JPJ Kedah Seizes ‘Bumblebee’ Camaro in Ops Luxury, Reinforcing Zero Tolerance for Lawbreakers

The Kedah Road Transport Department (JPJ) has seized a yellow Chevrolet Camaro, highly resembling the famous “Bumblebee” character from the Transformers movie franchise, during a targeted enforcement operation known as Ops Luxury.

The famous yellow ‘Bumblebee’ Chevrolet Camaro is now in the possession of JPJ. It was apprehended by JPJ Negeri Kedah officers on October 25, 2025, along Jalan Alor Setar – Kangar. The seizure was part of the ongoing nationwide Ops Luxury campaign, which targets high-end vehicles that violate the Road Transport Act 1987.

An inspection conducted by the enforcement team found that the vehicle had committed several offences under the Road Transport Act 1987. While the specific breaches were not detailed, previous nationwide Ops Luxury campaigns have commonly uncovered violations including:

  • Expired road tax (LKM) and/or no valid insurance coverage.
  • Driving without a valid Competent Driving Licence (CDL).
  • Displaying false registration plates or mismatched chassis numbers.

The driver was issued a summon, and the vehicle was subsequently taken to the JPJ Negeri Kedah Impound Depot for further investigation and action.

Zero Compromise on Enforcement

JPJ Negeri Kedah issued a strong statement emphasizing that the department will maintain its uncompromising stance on enforcing traffic laws. This policy applies universally, regardless of the type or value of the vehicles involved.

The continuous implementation of Ops Luxury is part of JPJ’s strategic efforts to safeguard the safety, well-being, and sustainability of the nation’s transport sector. Prior phases of the operation have seen hundreds of luxury vehicles—including models from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, and Porsche—seized nationwide for similar violations. These seizures have often involved owners, including celebrities and business figures, who failed to renew their road tax and insurance, in some cases for extended periods.

The latest action in Kedah serves as a clear reminder that owning a high-value or distinctive vehicle does not grant immunity from legal compliance. JPJ encourages the public to continue reporting violations via the MyJPJ application’s e-Aduan feature.
