With the Perodua EV launch just weeks away some media who bumped into Perodua senior management at Japan Mobility Show 2025 had questions and more questions
The Perodua electric car is about to be launched and the details and a closely guarded secret. For sure, its NOT coming from their technical partner Daihatsu as they do not have an electric car in Japan to share with them
The past year we have heard and stumble upon news that Perodua was working with a variety of companies to bring together this brand new electric car (EV).
There is even ‘hot mumblings’ from some Perodua vendors that this is product from a Chinese electric car manufacturer with input from Perodua engineers and designers.
What we know for sure, is that the battery for the Perodua electric car is provided from Chinese battery giant CATL and the management software will come from them.
It has been leaked that Perodua’s EV development involves a range of partners, moving away from its traditional reliance on a single technology transfer partner for this specific project.
Telekom Malaysia (TM) has been named as a strategic partner. The collaboration includes providing connectivity, smart manufacturing technologies, and potentially co-created products like custom infotainment systems.
Perodua is collaborating with charge point operator Gentari to expand its EV charging initiatives and infrastructure.
Perodua has also established partnerships with several local universities, including Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), to support the model’s R&D and train local engineers in next-generation EV technologies, aiming to reduce dependence on foreign technology transfers.
Then, there is Magnet Marelli where there were some news that Perodua was exploring a partnership with Marelli for the supply of key EV components such as e-axles, inverters, and battery management systems, and the company’s management has visited Marelli’s facilities.
Finally, we already mentioned battery provider CATL.
