Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has just unveils the new Mercedes-Benz GLE 400 e 4MATIC with EQ Hybrid Technology, the first GLE plug-in hybrid to grace local roads. Locally assembled in Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s production plant in Pekan, it embodies the perfect harmony of electrified performance, exceptional comfort, and dynamic driving experience.

The outgoing GLE was priced at RM475k and this means this latest version with the latest hybrid technology and features is just a smidgen more. The previous GLE 400 was also priced better than its immediate rivals like the Touareg and Q7 and this time, the attractive pricing continues.

Hybrid drive and dynamic performance

The new GLE 400 e 4MATIC is equipped with a permanently excited 100 kW synchronous machine and offers a total system output of up to 280 kW as well as a system torque of up to 650 Nm. With up to 114 kilometres of electric range according to WLTP, depending on driving conditions, most everyday journeys can be covered purely with the electric motor. The improved hybrid drive program provides the electric driving mode for the most appropriate sections of the route.

On routes in urban areas, for example, the new GLE 400 e 4MATIC prioritises electric driving. Thanks to an Off-Road drive programme, the plug-in hybrid can now also drive all-electric in off-road terrain. An 11 kW charger is on board for charging from the domestic AC mains or the three-phase wallbox. A mode 2 charging cable is included for added flexibility.

Under the hood, a 2.0-litre turbocharged and electrified 4-cylinder engine works in harmony with the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive, allowing the new GLE 400 e 4MATIC to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds, with a top speed of 210 km/h.

Ride comfort is elevated by the AIRMATIC Package, featuring an intelligent comfort suspension that adapts automatically to driving conditions, speed, and load. The system balances dynamic stability with first-class comfort, ensuring a smooth and confident ride in every situation.

Exterior highlights

The new GLE 400 e 4MATIC is striking and elegant with an AMG Line exterior featuring the diamond grille with Mercedes-Benz pattern in chrome, the AMG front apron with chrome trim element, AMG side sill panels and wheel arch cladding in the vehicle colour, as well as the AMG rear apron with diffuser-look insert. Enhancing its dynamic character are the 21-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, aluminium-look illuminated running boards with rubber studs, and a panoramic sliding sunroof.

The so-called light flare in the headlamps is characteristic of Mercedes-Benz. With the MULTIBEAM LED with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, drivers benefit from optimal visibility across a wide range of lighting conditions. The new GLE 400 e 4MATIC is available in various colour options such as obsidian black, selenite grey, high-tech silver, and now the highlight paint MANUFAKTUR opalite white bright at a surcharge.

Interior highlights

The AMG Line interior makes the vehicle visibly and tangibly sportier. As a 5-seater, the new GLE 400 e 4MATIC offers generous space for passengers, complemented by a refined interior design. The multifunction sports steering wheel in nappa leather, which is flattened at the bottom and perforated in the grip area, enhances the driving experience, as does the AMG sports pedal system in brushed stainless steel. For the interior colour, the equipment combination come in ARTICO man-made leather upholstery / MICROCUT microfibre.

The Anthracite open-pore oak wood trim elements lend the interior an individual look. It blends in harmoniously while also creating exciting contrasts, thereby reinforcing and emphasising the interior design. The instrument panel and the beltlines in ARTICO man-made leather underscore the high quality of the interior. The surfaces look particularly classy and are further enhanced by the topstitching. Illuminated door sills with ‘Mercedes-Benz’ lettering complete the sophisticated interior environment.

For added comfort and convenience, the vehicle is equipped with THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control, electrically-adjustable rear seats, USB Package Plus with five USB-C ports, and wireless charging for mobile devices in the front. The interior atmosphere is enhanced with 64-colour ambient lighting. The KEYLESS-GO Convenience Package features KEYLESS-GO access and HANDS-FREE ACCESS allowing drivers to start and lock the vehicle as well as open and close the tailgate automatically simply by carrying the key.

The second generation of the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system delivers intuitive connectivity and control. Both the driver and central displays measure 12.3 inches, with the central display offering direct touchscreen operation. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ensure seamless smartphone integration.

The new GLE 400 e 4MATIC comes with MBUX Navigation Premium and MBUX Augmented Reality for navigation allowing drivers to reach their destinations safely. In addition, Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC and Parking Package with 360° camera makes maneuvering tight parking spaces a breeze. When driving off-road, the transparent bonnet function displays a virtual view of the terrain ahead via the 360° camera, helping drivers navigate uneven ground with greater accuracy.

The Driving Assistance Package Plus offers maximum comfort and safety on the road. This now adds state-of-the-art driving assistance and safety features to this model, e.g. Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC with Active Steering Assist, Evasive Steering Assist, and Active Lane Keeping Assist.

For an immersive audio experience, the vehicle is equipped with the Burmester® 3D surround sound system, featuring personal sound setup options and Dolby Atmos integration. With 13 speakers, 13 amplifier channels, and a total system output of 590 watts, it delivers exceptional clarity and depth throughout the cabin.
