The Mercedes-Benz GLE has been given its 2nd facelift since the model’s 4th generation’s debut.
As a reminder the GLE was once sold as the M-Class or ML-Class in early generations. This major facelift brings over 3,000 new or revised components, this latest update integrates next-generation AI technology and a bold new design language to ensure the GLE remains a leader in its class. The 2026 update for the Mercedes-Benz GLE represents a significant leap in both digital intelligence and mechanical refinement and comes alongside changes to the new GLS.

A Bold New Visual Signature
The exterior of the 2026 GLE features a more striking character, defined by a redesigned front bumper and an enlarged radiator grille. The grille now sports a distinctive chrome frame with contour lighting and a center-mounted star that is optionally illuminated.

A key highlight is the new lighting signature; the headlamps incorporate two horizontally arranged star motifs, while the rear light clusters feature three-dimensional star emblems. For those seeking ultimate visibility, the latest DIGITAL LIGHT technology is available, producing a light field that is 40% larger while consuming 50% less energy than the previous generation.

Interior: The MBUX Superscreen Experience
The digital transformation is centered around the now-standard MBUX Superscreen. This single glass surface spans the cockpit and houses three 12.3-inch displays for the driver, center, and front passenger. The interior also adopts the popular “rocker-and-roller” steering wheel control concept, featuring galvanized-metal rollers for a premium tactile feel.

Additional cabin upgrades include:
- Atmospheric Ambient Styles: High-resolution background motifs for the Superscreen that range from “calm” to “intense”.
- Enhanced Comfort: Standard comfort seats now include electric adjustment for seat cushion depth and headrests.
- Acoustic Insulation: New insulation measures, including high-quality fleece in the driveshaft tunnel, significantly reduce engine and road noise.
Engine Efficiency and Predictive Damping
The entire engine range has been revised to offer more power and agility while meeting future emission standards. All petrol and diesel units now include an integrated starter generator (ISG) and a 48-volt system for seamless start-stop functions and improved fuel savings.

- V8 Performance: The GLE 580 4MATIC’s power has increased to 395 kW (537 hp) and features a new flat-plane crankshaft.
- Plug-in Hybrid: The GLE 450e 4MATIC offers a pure electric range of up to 106 kilometres (WLTP).
- Intelligent Damping: A new cloud-based damper control system for the AIRMATIC suspension uses Car-to-X data to predictively adjust the ride before encountering road bumps.
AI-Powered Intelligence
The 2026 GLE is transformed by the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS). This AI-driven “supercomputer” allows the vehicle to learn and evolve through over-the-air updates. The MBUX Virtual Assistant now leverages collective internet knowledge and ChatGPT to engage in complex, multi-part dialogues with the driver. For added convenience, Mercedes pay+ enables biometric two-factor authentication for secure in-car payments via an interior camera.

With its blend of rugged SUV capability and S-Class levels of technology, the 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLE facelift sets a high bar for the premium segment. By prioritizing predictive comfort and AI-driven interaction, Mercedes-Benz ensures the GLE remains a “Welcome home” experience for the modern driver.
