Proton e.MAS Drives Northern Malaysia EV & PHEV Adoption

Proton e.MAS concludes its time in Penang at the recent Autoshow.

The landscape of electric mobility in Northern Malaysia is witnessing a significant transformation. At the recent Penang Autoshow 2026, PRO-NET, the new energy subsidiary of national carmaker PROTON, demonstrated that electric vehicles (EVs) are rapidly moving from early-adopter novelties to mainstream lifestyle choices.

The event, which was graced by the Chief Minister of Penang, Chow Kon Yeow, highlighted a surge in both commercial interest and community-driven confidence in the brand’s electrified lineup.

A Landmark Moment: The Bridge Convoy

One of the most defining highlights of the weekend was a coordinated, owner-led convoy involving 30 Proton e.MAS vehicles. The fleet, comprising the e.MAS 5, e.MAS 7, and e.MAS 7 PHEV, journeyed from Juru and drove across the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge (Penang Second Bridge) before arriving at the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre (PWCC).

This activation marked the first time a national EV brand has mobilized an owner-driven fleet of this scale across the iconic bridge. Beyond the visual spectacle, the convoy served as a powerful demonstration of real-world confidence in EV ownership and the reliability of the e.MAS ecosystem.

Converting Interest into Ownership

The three-day showcase saw Proton e.MAS record over 760 sales engagements, a figure that includes test drives, leads, and firm bookings. This data reflects a meaningful shift in consumer acceptance within the northern region, where drivers are increasingly viewing EVs as viable primary vehicles for their families.

To date, more than 200 owners and their families in the North have officially signaled their transition to electric mobility through the e.MAS brand. This momentum is underpinned by a growing dealership network and a commitment to comprehensive after-sales support, ensuring that the transition from internal combustion engines to electric power is seamless.

The success in Penang reinforces Proton e.MAS’s mission to lead sustainable transportation through innovation and excellence. By delivering international standards of reliability and technology, the brand is successfully inspiring connections with a new generation of Malaysian drivers.

Proton e.MAS remains dedicated to building a robust EV ecosystem that supports national sustainability goals, including the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). Through community-focused events and owner-led initiatives, the brand continues to prove that the future of mobility in Malaysia is not just electric—it is already here.
