Proton S70 is now being offered without a turbocharged engine for less than RM60,000.
Proton is turning up the heat in the budget market with the introduction of a new variant of the S70 sedan. When the S70 was first launched, it came with a 3-cylinder 1.5L turbo and a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. Then in a recent facelift, it got a 4-cylinder 1.5L turbo with the same gearbox and the public started dubbing it ‘the Conti Killer’ for its increased power output and reasonable pricing.
Now, Proton are fitting the S70 with a naturally-aspirated version of the 1.5L 4-cylinder engine (i-GT) and pairing that to a CVT. This ought to be the same exact powertrain option that’s available on the high-spec Proton Saga. With this new engine and transmission pairing, Proton have managed to bring the price of the S70 down below RM60,000. Pricing is still estimated and not fully confirmed for now, but the order books are open and we’re sure this will be a massive hit for the brand in 2026 and beyond.
The new powertrain will be available on two variants of the S70 dubbed ‘Lite’ and ‘Prime’. Features that have been confirmed include:

- All windows Auto Up/Down with Anti Trap
- Electric Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold
- Remote engine start
- Wireless Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®
- Rear Side Radar System
- Blind Spot Detection
- Lane Change Assist
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- Door Opening Warning
- Rear Collision Warning
- Reverse Camera
- Rear Seat Reminder
- Six airbags
- Front and rear parking sensors
Obviously there will be equipment differences between the Lite and Prime variants, but we’ll have to wait and see what these differences are. The S70 will have a massive advantage at the sub-RM60,000 price point thanks to its ‘C-segment’ dimensions and ought to provide more shoulder room for rear passengers.
Bookings are open nationwide at any Proton dealership with pricing and equipment to be confirmed at launch. Customers who book these two new variants by the end of 2026 will be eligible for early bird rewards, which will also be announced at the launch.
