Chery Is The 1st Chinese Carmaker To Export 5 Million Vehicles

Chery has become the first Chinese automotive company to export more than 5 million vehicles.

Chery International has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first Chinese carmaker to surpass 5 million vehicle exports worldwide. The achievement reinforces Chery’s dominance in overseas markets, where it has maintained the number one position in passenger car exports for an impressive 22 consecutive years.

In July 2025, the automaker also celebrated a “Double 500” achievement, climbing the Fortune Global 500 list to 233rd (from 385th in 2024) and advancing to 59th on the Fortune China 500. These back-to-back recognitions underscore Chery’s rapid global expansion and strong brand presence.

At the heart of this success lies OMODA | JAECOO, a young yet fast-rising automotive brand that has already become a central growth driver. In just over 26 months since launch, OMODA | JAECOO has exported more than 570,000 units, representing 37% of Chery’s total global export volume. This makes it the fastest emerging automotive brand to surpass the half-million sales mark globally.

The brand’s strength extends into New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), with first-half 2025 exports showing dramatic growth. NEVs now account for 40% of OMODA | JAECOO’s total exports, up from just 2,325 units in early 2024 to over 13,000 in the first quarter of 2025 — a staggering 460% year-on-year increase.

Globally, OMODA | JAECOO has gained traction in 44 markets, including Europe, South America, Australia, and across ASEAN. In Spain, it set a record by becoming the first Chinese car brand to exceed 10,000 sales in its first 11 months.

In Malaysia, the brand has quickly established itself as a market leader. Since the debut of the JAECOO J7 in July 2024, followed by the OMODA C9 in December 2024 and the J7 PHEV in February 2025, the lineup has grown steadily. The recent launch of the flagship J8 SUV in July 2025 marked another milestone, with over 17,000 OMODA | JAECOO vehicles now on Malaysian roads. According to the Road Transport Department (JPJ), the brand ranks among the Top 5 carmakers in Malaysia and stands as the nation’s most successful Chinese marque.

Looking ahead, OMODA | JAECOO has ambitious plans to deepen investments in Europe, ASEAN, and South America, with Malaysia serving as the hub for right-hand drive global exports.
