GWM WEY G9 MPV Local Assembly Starts And Priced Below RM300,000

GWM Malaysia has marked an important milestone with the first vehicle roll out of the locally assembled GWM WEY G9 at the EP Manufacturing Bhd (EPMB) plant in Melaka. The ceremony was witnessed by senior representatives from EPMB and GWM Malaysia.

The GWM WEY G9 is the first premium Chinese New Energy MPV to be assembled in Malaysia. This milestone supports GWM’s commitment to localisation, industry development and its long-term ambition to establish Malaysia as a strategic hub for the ASEAN region. The model is set for its official Malaysian launch early 2026.

A Strategic Collaboration to Strengthen Malaysia’s NEV Ecosystem
The commencement of CKD operations at EPMB demonstrates GWM’s confidence in Malaysia’s capability to support high value automotive manufacturing, technology transfer and regional supply chain development. The collaboration is expected to contribute to local talent growth, vendor development and the foundation for future export activities to neighbouring markets.

A Milestone Achievement for GWM Malaysia
“Today is a historic achievement for GWM Malaysia. The roll out of the GWM WEY G9 from Melaka represents the meeting point of global engineering excellence and local craftsmanship. It reinforces our commitment to Malaysia, from creating high value jobs to developing local suppliers and ensuring Malaysian customers enjoy premium New Energy vehicles assembled with pride here in Melaka. This milestone lays the foundation for a stronger and more competitive GWM Malaysia in the years ahead”, said En. Roslan Abdullah, Chief Operating Officer of GWM Malaysia.

Managing Director of GWM Malaysia, Mr. Cui Anqi added, “Seeing the first GWM WEY G9 roll out from the Malaysian assembly line is a proud moment for GWM. It reflects our global ambition to deepen our New Energy presence in ASEAN and our confidence in Malaysia as a strategic manufacturing base. The partnership with EPMB is an important milestone in our regional expansion journey. This is more than local assembly, it is the beginning of a broader roadmap that will support future export opportunities. We are committed to growing our regional future from Malaysia.”

Building on Global R&D with Local Craftsmanship
The GWM WEY G9 is developed through GWM’s global research and development network and built on a dedicated luxury New Energy platform. Local assembly in Melaka ensures Malaysian customers benefit from international engineering standards together with local quality assurance.

The GWM WEY G9 will introduce the advanced Hybrid Intelligent 4WD (Hi4) system to the Malaysian premium MPV segment. It is designed for both family and business users with first class comfort, intelligent safety systems, smooth and efficient performance and a refined premium cabin experience.

Open for Booking
GWM Malaysia is pleased to announce that the GWM WEY G9 is now officially open for booking nationwide, with an expected price below RM300,000. Customers may place their bookings at any authorized GWM dealership across Malaysia.

Next Steps
Following the successful rollout of the first locally assembled unit, GWM Malaysia is preparing for the official launch of the WEY G9 early 2026. The CKD programme with EPMB will continue to progress with deeper localisation efforts, ongoing talent development and the advancement of technical capabilities at the Melaka plant.

These initiatives will also support Malaysia’s long term role within GWM’s broader ASEAN strategy, with future phases designed to strengthen the country’s position in the New Energy Vehicle ecosystem. Further updates on CKD development and the next stages of this regional roadmap will be shared in due course.
