SAIC Motor Malaysia has officially commenced local production of the MG S5 EV.
The first unit recently rolled off the line at the PEPS-JV assembly facility in Alor Gajah, marking a new chapter for the brand’s presence in the region. By transitioning from imported CBU units to local assembly (CKD) in partnership with EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB), the brand is not only bringing its technology closer to Malaysian consumers but also strengthening the local automotive supply chain and supporting homegrown vendors.

Upgraded Performance for the CKD Model
The locally assembled MG S5 EV is more than just a change in production origin; it introduces significant performance enhancements over its imported predecessor. Built on MG’s dedicated rear-wheel-drive electric platform, the CKD model now delivers:
- Power Output: Increased to 151kW (up from 125kW).
- Torque: Improved to 350Nm, providing sharper acceleration and more dynamic handling.
- Range: A flexible driving range of up to 446km (WLTP), making it suitable for both city commuting and cross-state travel.

Stability and interior space are further optimized by a horizontal, ultra-thin battery layout that lowers the vehicle’s center of gravity. For those seeking extra luxury, the LUX variant adds premium touches such as full leatherette upholstery, ventilated front seats, and a hands-free power tailgate.

Rapid Charging and Global Safety Standards
Efficiency extends beyond the drive. The MG S5 EV supports ultra-fast DC charging of up to 150kW, allowing the battery to replenish from 10% to 80% in approximately 26 minutes under ideal conditions.

Safety remains a core pillar of the MG brand. The S5 EV is equipped with seven airbags and the ADAS 2.5 suite, featuring intelligent systems like Traffic Jam Assist and Intelligent Cruise Control. This commitment is validated by prestigious five-star safety ratings from both Euro NCAP and ASEAN NCAP.

Boosting Melaka’s Industrial Landscape
The Alor Gajah facility is now a strategic hub capable of assembling a multi-pathway lineup, including BEVs, hybrids, and traditional internal combustion models. Production for the MG S5 EV is projected to reach between 120 and 180 units per month, with an estimated annual output of 1,500 to 2,000 vehicles for the 2026 calendar year.

To ensure long-term peace of mind, every MG S5 EV is backed by an 8-year/180,000km battery pack warranty and an 8-year/160,000km warranty for the motor control unit, solidifying its position as a reliable choice for the modern Malaysian family.
