Hyundai Motor reaffirms China commitment with BAIC with the global debut of IONIQ V.
At Auto China 2026, Hyundai Motor Company reinforced its long-term commitment to the Chinese market by unveiling the all-new IONIQ V. This debut marks the first major milestone in a renewed “In China, For China, To Global” strategy, positioning the region as a strategic hub for innovation and global competitiveness.

A Bold Roadmap for the Chinese Market
Hyundai Motor and its partner, BAIC Group, have committed a combined investment of 8 billion yuan to their joint venture, Beijing Hyundai. This investment supports an ambitious roadmap to introduce 20 new models in China over the next five years, including battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs).

IONIQ V: Redefining Premium Intelligent Space
The IONIQ V is the first dedicated IONIQ production model tailored specifically for Chinese customer needs. It introduces the brand’s new design language, “The Origin,” characterized by a sleek, single-curve silhouette and futuristic edge lighting.
- Spacious Living Environment: The vehicle features a 2,900 mm wheelbase, providing class-leading cabin dimensions with 1,078 mm of first-row legroom and superior shoulder room.
- Cutting-Edge Interface: The cockpit is anchored by a 27-inch ultra-thin 4K panoramic display and a Horizon head-up display (H-HUD).
- Performance: The long-range variant secures a driving range of over 600 kilometers on a single charge (CLTC standard).
- Acoustic Refinement: Enhanced noise-reduction measures and an optimized suspension ensure a quiet, stable, and composed ride.
Advanced Safety and AI Integration
The IONIQ V integrates local technological expertise through strategic partnerships with Chinese tech leaders like CATL, Momenta, and Qualcomm.
- Smart AI Assistant: Powered by a Large Language Model (LLM) and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset, the assistant enables intuitive voice-based control of vehicle functions.
- 360-degree Protection: The vehicle is built with a reinforced body structure, a nine-airbag system, and advanced features such as Pedal Misapplication Safety Assist (PMSA) to prevent unintended acceleration.

A Differentiated Customer Experience
To improve trust and convenience, Hyundai is implementing a transparent “One Price” policy across all sales channels in China. The brand is also expanding its retail footprint with dedicated standalone hubs in key cities and enhancing its charging and battery service network to support the entire ownership lifecycle. It’s clear Hyundai has gotten the message and instead of backing out of the Chinese market or electric vehicles, they’re doubling down and ready to compete head-to-head. Just check out what the head of Hyundai had to say:
“China is where the future of mobility is being defined,” said José Muñoz, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company. “Hyundai intends to help define it, In China, For China, and ultimately, for the world”.
