Volvo ‘Selamat Driving Experience’ To Kick Off At Sepang

Volvo Car Malaysia is challenging the nation to stop treating road safety as an afterthought. With the launch of the Selamat Driving Experience.

Volvo Car Malaysia is inviting all —regardless of the car they drive—to the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) on 16 and 17 May 2026 to experience life-saving interventions in a high-stakes environment.

The initiative is a core part of the “Selamat” campaign launched in January 2026, aimed at reframing safety as a shared responsibility. By moving safety from a spec-sheet feature to an immersive reality, Volvo hopes to help drivers unlearn dangerous habits and better understand the consequences of split-second decisions.

The Somber Reality of Malaysian Roads

The urgency behind this campaign is fueled by staggering statistics. According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia, 2024 saw 4,428 transport-related fatalities, with a heartbreaking 2,574 casualties aged between 15 and 40 years old.

“We often take safety for granted, growing apathetic and even careless, simply because it hasn’t happened to us yet,” shared Patricia Yaw, Sales & Marketing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia. “The Selamat Driving Experience aims to transform that abstraction into something real by bringing these stories and experiences into an immersive space”.

What to Expect: Tracks, AI, and Safety Simulators

Participants at the Sepang International Circuit’s Driving Experience Centre will be guided by professionally certified driving instructors through controlled “close shave” scenarios.

The event offers a rare opportunity to witness Volvo’s Safe Space Technology in action. This advanced system utilizes real-world data and artificial intelligence to predict and prevent risks before they occur. By demonstrating these features in simulated critical moments, the experience turns technical specifications into tangible reminders of how quickly life can change.

How to Participate

The Selamat Driving Experience is open to all Malaysians, but slots are strictly limited to 192 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Registration Portal: Interested drivers can sign up at volvocarmalaysia.com/selamat-driving-experience.
  • Fees: RM150 for Volvo owners, RM300 for non-Volvo owners, and RM100 for non-participating guests.
  • Guidelines: Parents are advised not to bring minors under 18 due to the active track environment.

Volvo’s Ongoing Commitment to Malaysia

Volvo’s roots in Malaysia date back to the early 1960s, with Volvo Car Manufacturing Malaysia (established in 1967) standing as the country’s oldest vehicle assembly plant. Today, the brand is a leader in electrification, having been the first in Malaysia to offer a full range of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) across all its models.
