BMW Halts Some iX1 Orders Due To Shortage of 17 & 18 Inch Wheels

BMW has suspended orders for its all-electric iX1 SUV in certain European markets due to shortages of 17-inch and 18-inch wheels, causing delivery delays for some customers.

According to an internal memo, wheel supply in May is sufficient to maintain production, but from June onward, output will fall short of demand. BMW is currently working with suppliers to address the issue, though a near-term resolution appears unlikely.

Customers who opted for the standard 17-inch wheels, offering an official range of 515 kilometers are most affected. BMW is advising them to switch to 19-inch wheels instead, although this configuration typically requires upgrading to a higher trim level, adding approximately €1,900 to the price and reducing range to 509 kilometers.

Choosing 20-inch wheels further lowers the range to 491 kilometers. The 18-inch wheel variant, which delivers 504 kilometers of range, is also facing tight supply.

Some dealers have already delayed individual customer deliveries by around three months. The iX1 is set for a facelift soon and has become one of BMW’s key electric models in the European market.
