Mazda Philippines confirms Plug-In Hybrid lineup for 2027
Mazda Philippines President and CEO Steven Tan has officially confirmed that plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models will join the brand’s local showroom lineup by 2027.

The announcement, made on the sidelines of the Philippine debut of the third-generation 2027 Mazda CX-5, aligns with Mazda’s global multi-solution electrification strategy. Rather than shifting abruptly to full electric powertrains, the Japanese marque is tailoring its powertrain portfolio to match regional charging infrastructure and buyer preferences by deploying plug-in hybrids alongside its existing mild-hybrid (M Hybrid) models.
Potential Contenders: Mazda CX-60 and CX-90 PHEV
While exact model allocations remain under final review by distributor Bermaz Auto Philippines, the primary candidates for local introduction are built on Mazda’s Large Product Group architecture:
- Mazda CX-60 PHEV: A two-row premium mid-size crossover that has already found strong local success with its mild-hybrid inline-six variants.
- Mazda CX-90 PHEV (and CX-80): Three-row flagship luxury SUVs offering high passenger capacity combined with zero-emissions electric capability for daily urban commutes.

Mazda’s 2.5-liter e-Skyactiv PHEV powertrain marries a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine with a high-output electric motor and a 17.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The setup channels power through a multi-clutch eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-biased all-wheel drive, delivering a combined output of 331 PS and 500 Nm of torque, alongside an electric-only driving range of around 60 kilometers under the WLTP test cycle.

Multi-Solution Roadmap Anchored by the All-New 2027 Mazda CX-5
The 2027 PHEV roadmap follows the local arrival of the all-new third-generation Mazda CX-5, which debuted in Manila featuring a hybrid-assisted 2.5-liter AWD HEV Premium Plus configuration.
As a core volume driver for Bermaz Auto Philippines, the redesigned CX-5 showcases the evolution of Mazda’s design and mechanical ethos:
- Kodo Design & Human-Centric Interior: Features an expanded footprint, increased rear legroom, a 15.6-inch center infotainment screen, and genuine Japanese Sen Wood and sports tan leather cabin appointments.
- Refined Dynamics: Leverages enhanced body rigidity, improved sound isolation, and revised torque-converter transmission mapping to sharpen the brand’s signature Jinba-Ittai (horse and rider as one) driving connection.
- Comprehensive Ownership Coverage: The all-new CX-5 includes Mazda’s standard 3-year bumper-to-bumper manufacturer warranty and a complimentary 5-year free service plan covering periodic maintenance.
Expanding Electrification Choices for Filipino Motorists
By bridging the gap between conventional mild hybrids and pure electric vehicles, the planned introduction of Mazda’s PHEV range in 2027 provides motorists in the Philippines with long-distance grand touring freedom, instant electric torque off the line, and reduced emissions without the constraints of public fast-charging dependency.
