The Fang Cheng Bao Formula S will be this BYD sub-brand’s first liftback sedan.
The Fang Cheng Bao (Formula Leopard) BYD sub-brand has been known in China for their emphasis on off-roaders since its inception in 2023 but it appears that may soon change with the introduction of their next vehicle – the Formula S. Sales licenses and official vehicle dimensions have been leaked for the Formula S and the car itself has been publicly spotted. The interior was also seen during the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, so we know this vehicle isn’t just a concept but is fast being readied for production and sale.

The Fang Cheng Bao Formula S test unit reveals the car has a roof-mounted LiDAR unit, indicating that it will run BYD’s DiPilot 5.0 assisted driving system. The wheelbase and overall silhouette suggest some relation to the Denza Z (not the Z9 GT, but the Z sportscar). While that’s just speculation, what’s more or less confirmed is the power outputs. The rear wheel drive model will have two output specifications – either a 245kW or 300kW electric motor. There is just one all-wheel drive model and it comes with a 490kW twin motor system consisting of a 190 kW front motor with a 300 kW rear motor.

The Formula S will also come with BYD’s next generation Blade Battery 2.0 which supports ultra quick Flash Charging technology. Other confirmed specifications include the top speed, which is limited to 240km/h.

The introduction of this sedan under the Fang Cheng Bao name is meant to help the sub-brand diversify within China where internal group competition isn’t necessarily seen as a bad thing. For export though, it’s suggested that BYD might repackage the Formula S and Formula S GT models under the Denza sub-brand. Denza has a presence in Malaysia and currently offers two products – the D9 MPV and the B8 SUV. A third flagship liftback sedan model might be a logical next step after the Z9 GT gets its launch. There is currently NO Chinese rival for the Formula S in Malaysia. In China, you have the likes of the BYD Han L, Xiaomi SU7 and Zeekr 007 in this space to name a few. Think of it as a Porsche Taycan competitor and you’ll get the picture.
